The Middlesex Corporation seeks a Shop Mechanic to maintain and repair fleet vehicles and construction equipment supporting heavy civil and transportation projects. Working in our Automotive department, you'll diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues; perform preventive maintenance; and complete engine, brake, and drivetrain repairs on trucks and heavy equipment. You'll uphold our strong safety culture, document all work, collaborate with operations to minimize downtime, and support innovation and quality across our infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on trucks and heavy construction equipment
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, lubrication, and safety inspections on fleet assets
  • Complete engine, brake, suspension, and drivetrain repairs to manufacturer and company standards
  • Use diagnostic tools, service manuals, and technical data to troubleshoot equipment failures
  • Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts usage in maintenance systems
  • Ensure compliance with company, OSHA, and DOT safety standards and procedures in the shop
  • Collaborate with field operations to prioritize repairs and minimize equipment downtime
  • Assist with parts ordering, inventory control, and shop housekeeping
  • Support continuous improvement in maintenance practices and equipment reliability
  • Operate shop tools, welders, and lifting equipment safely and correctly
