Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Field Services Division is responsible for the inspection, testing, regulatory compliance, operation, and maintenance of over 4,800 miles of pipeline, over 11,000 fire hydrants, and approximately 860 wastewater pump stations.
The Field Services Division is seeking qualified individuals to fill multiple positions of Industrial Electrician Trainee or I or II. These positions perform electrical maintenance duties involving troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and replacing damaged or malfunctioning electrical lines, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment in an industrial wastewater / pump station environment with multiple critical processes. Work is performed with considerable independence under the Manager.
Performance is reviewed through observations and results achieved.
May assist a team leader as assigned, helping them to become familiarized with equipment, tools, work procedures, and ensure safety procedures are followed.
Work is performed under the general direction of assigned Industrial Electrician I/II, Senior Utilities Coordinator, or Utilities Supervisor. Performance is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.
- Assists in Installations, troubleshooting and repairs of low and medium voltage systems up to 4,160 volts with extensive supervision.
- In accordance with manufacturers' specifications, assists in performing electrical preventative maintenance on motors which may require the removal of hot oils, greases and other liquids. Assists with refills or replacing all items to maintain the integrity of the electric motors and the related equipment.
- Assists in calibrations and maintaining controls and process instruments and other instruments using a 4-20ma control signal.
- Assists in maintaining arc flash compliance following safety protocols in a live environment.
- Assist in performing troubleshooting and maintenance for all levels of infrastructure in water/water reclamation plants and lift station operation, working with mechanical and electrical equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), fuses, breakers and contractors.
- Assist in troubleshooting control systems equipped with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using ladder logic diagrams and electrical schematics. Uses technical manuals and prints to isolate and repair control systems.
- Uses multimeter instruments to identify voltage and ensures the safety of the work location while performing repairs.
- Works in enclosed spaces, adjacent to electrical equipment while installing or repairing chase pipes for wiring additional power or communication sources.
- Works with hand tools, climbs ladders and/or opens working pull boxes to run various types of cables.
- Assists in interpreting and understanding Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) / PLC logic which involves reading and understanding data trends used in troubleshooting equipment.
- Utilizes a work order management system to capture and record electrical failures, views historical data, report time and resources expended to complete work orders.
- Assists other staff with low voltage wiring while installing lights, switches and other low voltage equipment required for the maintenance of a safe working area or restoration of communications systems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
