Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer, Java Developer

The Defense Sector at Leidos is seeking a Software Engineer with 4+ years of professional experience to join a collaborative, product-focused engineering team. This role focuses on designing, developing, testing, and delivering software products primarily in Java, Rust, and JavaScript, while guiding Agile scrum teams and driving technical solutions from concept through delivery. The position allows telework, but the chosen candidate must be within a reasonable driving distance to one of four locations—Morgantown, WV;
Orlando, FL;
Omaha, NE; or Huntsville, AL—with weekly on‑site work required at one of these sites.

• Design, develop, and maintain software solutions using Java, Rust, JavaScript, and React.
• Drive end‑to‑end technical solutions, including architecture, implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Partner with product owners and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable, maintainable designs.
• Build and enhance user‑facing features using React, and develop backend services and APIs.
• Champion automated testing, code quality, and CI/CD practices.
• Leverage generative AI tools to improve developer productivity, testing, and documentation where appropriate.
• Lead code reviews, mentor engineers, and promote best practices across the team.
• Facilitate or actively contribute to Agile ceremonies using Jira (sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives).
• Incorporate user and stakeholder feedback to improve software functionality, usability, and performance.
• Identify technical risks and drive solutions that balance speed, quality, and maintainability.

• U.S. Citizen eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance within 365 days of employment at Leidos.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 4+ years of professional software development experience, or a Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience (additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
• Strong experience with Java, Rust, JavaScript, and React, or deep expertise in several of these technologies with the ability to lead across the full stack.
• Demonstrated experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and leading or guiding scrum teams.
• Experience driving technical solutions and making architecture or design decisions.
• Proficiency with Jira or similar Agile project management tools.
• Strong background in automated testing (unit, integration, and/or end‑to‑end).
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
• Self‑motivated and eager to learn new programming languages, tools, frameworks, and techniques.

• U.S. Citizen with an active Top Secret clearance.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and continuous delivery practices.
• Familiarity with frontend testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, and Cypress.
• Experience building cloud‑based or distributed systems.
• Experience using AI‑assisted development tools in production environments.

Pay Range: $87,100.00 - $ (general guideline; actual compensation may vary based on responsibilities, experience, and other factors).
