This position works under the guidance of the Quality Manager and is responsible for supporting improvements in product quality and first pass yield. This is accomplished by identifying quality improvement opportunities, collecting Statistical Process Control (SPC) data, and assisting the quality and production team members with projects related to eliminating in process defects and performing root cause analysis of customer quality complaints.
Quality Engineer helps develop corrective actions, continuous improvement projects, and participates or leads in their completion. Corrective actions and continuous improvement projects to be designed to improve first part yield (FPY) in each department of the production facilities by collecting and analyzing data specific to various steps of the process; and helping complete the appropriate problem-solving methodology to implement those improvements.
Core functions include identifying and leading projects in facilities to implement corrective actions that are sustainable to resolve process defects and customer quality issues, seeking out areas to improve quality and function in facilities, collecting, analyzing, and reporting real time data related to defect improvement projects and providing support for facility improvement initiatives, managing the collection of analysis of SPC data, monitoring incoming material quality and conducting discussions and visits with vendors when quality issues arise on purchased product, driving corrective actions related to incoming materials, conducting and leading continuous improvement projects in multiple facilities and ensuring correct documentation is completed to support outcomes, promoting the use of SPC techniques to help reduce variability and achieve process control, providing support to the production team in the implementation of changes to drive quality improvements, providing New Product Development support by participating in Process and Design FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis), preparing PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) requests for supplier submission and their subsequent review when received from suppliers, and conducting First Article piece part Inspections for Prototype and First Production Run of new components.
Education and experience required include a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality or related field, 3+ years of related experience in engineering or quality, experience conducting and designing design of experiments and Gage repair and replace, SPC experience and knowledge of SPC tools required, and Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification preferred.
Skills, abilities, and knowledge include being skilled in Microsoft Office, ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, ability to calculate percentages, basis points, and solve for unknown, skilled in statistical analysis, ability to work through corrective action process utilizing data to drive decision making, ability to solve complex problems and complete tasks, ability to guide a team toward a consensus solution, skilled in statistical software experience preferred, and skilled in Mini-tab analytical software is a plus.
Occasional travel may be required.

This position does not include any supervisor responsibilities.
This position is subject to light work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of force greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
