Purpose of the Job

This position is responsible for assembling tooling and setting up presses and other manufacturing equipment on the shop floor to support the production of drawn metal enclosures and stampings, including trimming, sizing, and finishing operations.

Responsibilities
  • Provides support to press operators or other production personnel whenever quality or production problems occur.
  • Installs proper tooling.
  • Checks for accuracy, fit, sharpness, and print specifications.
  • Sets up various equipment to meet production schedule.
  • Performs preliminary “first‑piece inspection” – checks for height, I.D., O.D., wall thickness, finish, and other criteria specified in the shop orders or special instructions.
  • Follows all safety rules and procedures.
  • Operates shop‑floor production control system and helps maintain accurate records for raw material, work‑in‑process, and finished goods.
  • Runs presses in the absence of operators.
  • Participates in continuous improvement processes individually and with teams, and champions projects to improve cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Participates as a member of the Manufacturing Team: participates in ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members; attends appropriate team meetings; accepts responsibility to quickly identify areas that lack cohesiveness.
  • Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One year in mechanical disciplines related to die setting or one year die‑setter experience preferred; lean manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Experience in deep‑draw metal stamping industry preferred.
  • Technical competencies: read and interpret blueprints; use die‑set tools and measuring devices; troubleshoot and analyze equipment and production problems; communicate effectively.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes; practice lean principles and apply tools and techniques.

  • Blueprint reading: ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings.
  • Die set tools: ability to use all die‑setter tools and measuring devices.
  • Troubleshooting: ability to troubleshoot and analyze equipment and production problems; work with resources to correct problems.
  • Interpersonal communications: ability to convey information accurately and effectively.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes: good understanding and working knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Lean thinking: learns and practices lean principles and applies tools and techniques.
