Progressive Machine Company is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Mechanical Assembly Technician / Machine Builder to assemble, install, test, and complete custom industrial machinery. Candidates must have at least one (1) year of relevant hands-on experience in mechanical assembly, machine building, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, fabrication, automotive/mechanical work, equipment installation, or a comparable technical environment. Electrical assembly experience is a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assemble frames, brackets, guards, shafts, bearings, rollers, linkages, pneumatic/hydraulic components, tubing, fittings, and related machine components.
- Read and follow mechanical drawings, assembly diagrams, bills of material, and work instructions.
- Identify and properly use fasteners, fittings, hardware, hand tools, power tools, measuring devices, and assembly equipment.
- Verify orientation, alignment, fit, movement, and mechanical function before final tightening or installation.
- Assist with basic electrical assembly when qualified, including wiring, switches, sensors, terminal connections, motors, and related components.
- Troubleshoot fit, alignment, movement, workmanship, missing-component, and quality concerns; correct issues rather than forcing components together.
- Support machine setup, testing, modification, and final preparation for customer delivery.
- Maintain organized, clean, and safe work areas; care for company tools, equipment, materials, and machine components.
- Communicate problems, discrepancies, and quality concerns to the appropriate supervisor and work collaboratively across departments.
- Follow safety procedures, established manufacturing processes, and complete assigned work efficiently while maintaining quality.
- Minimum of one (1) year of relevant hands-on mechanical, manufacturing, assembly, machine-building, industrial maintenance, fabrication, automotive, equipment installation, or comparable technical work experience.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, tool use, component identification, and ability to follow written or visual assembly instructions.
- Ability to understand basic mechanical drawings or diagrams and assemble components in the proper sequence and orientation.
- Ability to troubleshoot basic assembly problems, work independently after instruction, and maintain attention to detail within reasonable production expectations.
- Effective communication with supervisors and coworkers; reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Industrial machine assembly, custom machinery/equipment manufacturing, machine building, mechanical fabrication, or industrial maintenance.
- Experience with bearings, shafts, rollers, pulleys, sprockets, chains, drive systems, motors, gearboxes, pneumatics, hydraulics, and precision measurement.
- Electrical assembly experience is a plus, including wiring, wire routing, terminals, connectors, switches, sensors, motor connections, control components, or electrical/wiring diagrams.
- Experience reading engineering/mechanical drawings, troubleshooting machinery, welding, or fabrication.
Candidates hired for this role will be required to provide their own basic hand tools for daily mechanical assembly work. A required tool list will be provided upon hire.
Required Mechanical Aptitude AssessmentQualified candidates may be required to complete a 15-minute hands-on mechanical assembly assessment to evaluate practical shop skills, including instruction-following, hardware identification, assembly sequence, tool use, fit/alignment, troubleshooting, workmanship, organization, safety, and ability to work efficiently without sacrificing quality.

- Successful candidates should approach unfamiliar assemblies logically, avoid unnecessary force or damage, identify and correct problems, and produce functional work within the allotted time.
- Assessment results will be considered with employment history, experience, interview performance, and overall qualifications.
Mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, problem solving, quality mindset, productivity, accountability, teamwork, and safety. The successful candidate understands how components interact, verifies fit and alignment, communicates issues early, and completes work correctly and efficiently.
