Job Overview
Responsible for supporting teachers in instructing scholars using the classical model of learning combined with data-driven decision-making, supporting differentiation of needs and behaviors within one classroom.
Line of AuthorityInstructional Assistants shall report directly to the classroom teacher and be under the site supervision of the Principal.
CollaborationWorks with classroom teacher, vice principal, principal, faculty, department heads, office staff, health services coordinator, families and scholars.
Qualifications /Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Associate’s degree or higher
- At least 60 completed credit hours of higher education
- Passing score on skills assessment (Para Pro)
- AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card / background and criminal history clearance
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Willingness to learn the classical model of education
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Commitment to supporting and safeguarding excellence in classical education
- Conflict resolution abilities with humility and service attitude
- Professional relationships building with scholars, parents, co‑workers, vendors
- Commitment to promoting health and safety
- Basic office equipment proficiency
- Physical ability to lift boxes and packages as needed
- Support the learning environment established by the classroom teacher and enforce rules and procedures for responsible behavior
- Prepare materials and instructional resources for classroom activities based on the classical model
- Provide instructional support to scholars using whole‑class, small, leveled groups and individualized approaches
- Supervise scholars in hallways, drop off, lunch and pick up with a safety‑first mindset
- Read books to entire classes or small groups
- Administer formative assessments and assignments as directed
- Maintain accurate scholar records as required by school and law
- Encourage scholars to explore learning opportunities and persist with challenging tasks
- Support teacher’s enforcement of school policies and rules governing scholars
- Instruct and monitor scholars in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage
- Attend professional development meetings and training workshops as requested
- Perform additional duties as directed by the principal, including supporting school operations
- Assist in storing and inventory of classroom equipment, materials, and supplies
- Maintain confidentiality per FERPA
