Job Overview
The Town of Oro Valley seeks a self‑driven, solution‑oriented candidate to join the Cybersecurity & Network Operations team in the IT Department. In this role you will use technical and soft skills to execute challenging projects that maintain and improve the Town’s systems, interact regularly with customer departments, external agencies, and contractors, and convey technical information effectively to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Prior experience as a Network Administrator or Systems Administrator in a similar environment is required. Familiarity or experience with ITIL 4.0, Lean, Agile, Dev Ops and public safety is a plus.
Salary: $76,792 – $86,391, starting salary depends on experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities- Design, implement, maintain, secure, and proactively manage the computer and telecommunications network infrastructure.
- Manage and maintain infrastructure services including network operating systems, file servers, application servers, remote access servers, local and wide area communications equipment, and network security devices.
- Provide technical support to staff, including installation, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of computer hardware and software.
- Create and support comprehensive documentation on network configuration, system modifications, standards and policies, data backup and recovery procedures, and mission‑critical software and systems.
- Serve as the escalation point for complex technical issues across hardware, software, and network systems.
- Administer servers, networks, storage systems, and cloud environments to ensure high availability and optimal performance.
- Adhere to recommendations and guidelines of the cybersecurity team.
- Identify improvement opportunities related to tools, processes, procedures, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Install, configure, and support computer applications on servers and workstations using principles of least privilege.
- Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot local/wide area network devices, including file servers, communication devices, security devices, and other network equipment.
- Perform administrative duties including the creation of performance reports and development of network and security standards, guidelines, and procedures.
- Perform data and telecommunications network and server device installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Maintain backup schedules, verify data integrity, and ensure successful restoration processes.
- Perform software and hardware updates to network, servers, and other devices.
- Participate in incident response scenarios.
- Provide on‑call support during non‑business hours.
- Assist with planning and implementing new technologies, system migrations, and infrastructure improvements.
- Train Town employees on desktop software and hardware.
- Examine and mobilize guiding principles, goals, operations, and milestone progress for the overall purpose of the decisions being made.
- Achieve realistic results on communication both verbally and in written communication.
- Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on work assignments with minimal supervision.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Understand project management concepts.
- Familiarity with town and department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of VoIP and legacy telecommunications technologies.
- Knowledge of wireless WAN/LAN networking technologies.
- Deploy major network components such as backbone routers and switches.
- Document network installations and configurations accurately.
- Apply layer 1 connection technologies such as MOE and PTP wireless.
- Use network security standards and practices, including traffic monitoring, anti‑virus software, patch management, VPNs, Terminal Services, and file system access.
- Repair, install, and troubleshoot network hardware and software.
- Use Cisco routers and Cisco IOS.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Four (4) years’ experience in the design and administration of current Microsoft operating systems and servers.
