Under the direction of the Pastor, School Principal or other assigned manager, the custodian is responsible for performing janitorial services and light maintenance in a parish, school, or other facility. The employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching, both behaviorally at work and in personal life, exemplifying the moral principles of the Catholic Church.

• Support the church’s spiritual and pastoral mission.
• Abide by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life.
• Develop a cleaning schedule to ensure the church or school is clean and maintained in an orderly fashion.
• Perform general custodial duties, including cleaning and light maintenance of parish or school facilities.
• Assist the grounds person on an “as needed” basis.
• Perform scheduled janitorial duties such as floor waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, and other tasks per the parish maintenance schedule.
• Provide set‑up and cleaning of facilities for all activities as directed.
• Maintain a supply of cleaning supplies and equipment; properly account for materials and equipment.
• Maintain security of buildings, equipment, and tools.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to lift as required in a normal maintenance environment.

Walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and climbing ladders.

• Working knowledge of and strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; must be in full communion with the Catholic Church.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong human relations and interpersonal skills.
• Exercise courtesy to fellow employees, parishioners, and the public.
• Self‑starter, well organized, able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work with a sense of urgency.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment; punctuality is a must; ability to travel locally as required; weekend and overtime work may be required.
• Familiarity with computer technology.
• Successfully pass background, criminal history, and credit history checks.
• Possess a valid Arizona driver’s license.
• Ability to read directions and label safety warnings; safety conscious.
• Knowledge, skills, and experience in handling janitorial equipment and maintenance tools.
• Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.

• High school graduate or equivalent education.
• At least 1 year’s experience in a commercial or private maintenance, janitorial, or similar position.

• Bi‑lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
