The Accounting Program at Butte College is an integral component of the Business Education Department, dedicated to delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction in accounting principles and practices that prepare students for both immediate entry into accounting-related careers and transfer to university. The program emphasizes practical skill development, including financial and managerial accounting, income tax preparation, payroll accounting, and governmental accounting, to support students in achieving industry-relevant competencies such as certificates of achievement and an AS degree in Accounting.
Courses are designed with real-world applications in mind, fostering skills in financial analysis, problem solving, communication, ethical decision-making, and the use of contemporary accounting technologies.
The Accounting faculty play an essential role in closing regional skills gaps, particularly in high-demand fields such as accounting, finance, and business administration. As such, the department contributes to the District's mission of equity and student success by serving a diverse student population with varied academic and professional goals, ranging from first-generation college students to returning adult learners and working professionals seeking upskilling or career transitions.
Faculty collaborate across the Business Education Department to ensure curricular relevance, alignment with industry expectations, and integration with student support services that promote persistence and completion.
The Accounting Faculty position at Butte College is an opportunity to join an instructional team committed to academic excellence, student engagement, student equity, and workforce relevance. The successful candidate is expected to provide high-impact instruction in core accounting courses including Introduction to Accounting, Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Governmental Accounting, Payroll Accounting, Income Tax Accounting and Quick Books using research-informed teaching strategies and multiple instructional modalities, including in-person, hybrid, and online formats.
Assignments may include day, evening, and off-site instruction as needed to support equitable access and student schedules, and to meet the needs of a diverse student population.
The faculty member will collaborate with regional high schools and university partners to strengthen educational pathways into and through the Accounting program. This includes building and sustaining relationships, engaging in articulation efforts, participating in pathway and outreach activities, and working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to expand access and promote student persistence, completion, and transfer in accounting and related business disciplines.
The successful candidate is expected to cultivate and maintain relationships with regional employers, industry professionals, and workforce agencies to ensure the Accounting program remains aligned with current labor-market needs. These partnerships support student success by informing curriculum, expanding opportunities for internships and work experience, and strengthening students' pathways to employment in accounting and related business fields.
