General

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Center Director ensures the provision of quality early childhood education experiences for enrolled children in the center. Oversees, supervises and participates in the daily operations of classrooms as assigned. Supervises education staff as assigned. Responsible for maintaining compliance with performance standards and all other applicable regulations.

Performance Indicators – Level II

• Program Management (100%)
• Ensures the provision of quality early childhood education experiences through the implementation of program adapted curriculum, child assessments, appropriately designed environments that meet health and safety standards, and effective classroom management including appropriate adult/child interactions.
• Generates, collects and/or maintains, current, accurate, organized, written and electronic records and reports as required (i.e. sign-in sheets, in-kind, payroll).
• Under the direction of the Center Director ensures that classrooms are appropriately staffed (including ensuring substitutes are available to cover staff absences) and that classrooms are adequately equipped.
• Provides guidance and support to education staff as identified.
• Supports recruitment efforts as assigned.
• Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations (Head Start performance standards, licensing, labor laws, etc.) and agency policies and procedures.
• Promotes productive, effective relationships among center staff, and ensures collaboration between center staff and parents and maintains confidentiality regarding client and personnel issues, information, and records.
• Helps to develop good public relations that promote the Program and Agency as a valuable resource in the community.
• Assists with orienting new staff and volunteers with on-site procedures, safety routines and other requirements, as assigned.
• Assists in ensuring compliance of overall operations of program procedures and services.
• Supervises and evaluates the performance of center staff, as assigned.
• Promotes positive communication through assisting the Center Director with the following: conducting site meetings; ensure that parent meetings and events are properly scheduled and carried out; ensure that parent and staff concerns/complaints are addressed in a timely manner; serve as liaison between the Center(s) and Program Administration.
• Assists with Monitor center(s) budget for classroom, janitorial supplies, and food program, as assigned.
• Oversees the purchasing, tracking and distribution of these items as assigned.
• Completes necessary forms, reports, monitoring and documentation to support site operations.
• Oversees other staff members, in the daily cleaning and maintenance of the center.
• Limited classroom teaching responsibility
• Supports the Agency Safety program.
• Other duties as assigned within the scope of position classification.

Secondary Functions:

• Collects and submits accurate and timely reports as assigned.
• Ability to take the lead on projects as assigned.

• Ability to perform all duties assigned in Level II above. Increased pay rate is based on education.

Minimum Requirements:

• Associate Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development (also may require 3 units with a "C" grade or better in Early Childhood Education administration)
• Minimum 1-year experience (minimum 3 hours/day for 50 days within a 6 months period is equal to one-year experience);
• Prior supervisory experience is desirable.
• May be required to complete three units of Early Childhood Education course work with a "C" grade or better relating to infants and/or toddlers.
• Bilingual, bi-literate, English/Spanish, English/Punjabi, English/Hmong, and/or other language ability based on program needs preferred.
• State regulations require a physical examination, current tuberculosis test, and verified fingerprint and criminal records clearance before beginning work.
