Job SummaryThe Director Employee Health/Infection Control/WC supervises and implements the Infection Control and Employee Health program, acting as liaison for all team members, collecting and correlating data, reporting on policies and procedures. The role also encompasses duties of Employee Health Nurse and management of the Employee Health Program.
Duties & Responsibilities- Detect and record nosocomial infections, analyze them, and prepare monthly reports for Administration and Infection Control Committee.
- Conduct epidemiologic investigations of significant infection problems in collaboration with Administration and Infection Control Chairman.
- Continuously review and update the Infection Control Manual to reflect current best practices.
- Write and implement Administrative Infection Control policies and procedures in compliance with regulations such as CDC, OSHA, Title 22, and CMS.
- Notify the County Health Department of all reportable diseases and assist in follow‑up.
- Provide orientation to new employees on Infection Control principles and support ongoing continuing education.
- Serve as consultant to Nursing Services, Ancillary Services, and Administration regarding infection control, equipment purchases, and sterilization supplies.
- Educate staff, patients, and families through personal consultation, films, and printed material.
- Manage the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Blood Borne Pathogens Standard Compliance Program and Tuberculosis Exposure Control Plan.
- Supervise the Employee Health and Workers Compensation Program and the National Healthcare Safety Network reporting system.
- Handle Environment of Care surveillance, reporting to Administration and the Infection Control Committee.
- Supervise annual PPD program and HCW vaccine program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Provide a positive and professional representation of the organization.
- Promote a culture of safety through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
- Maintain standards for a clean, quiet patient environment to support a positive patient care experience.
- Adhere to infection‑control policies and protocols.
- Participate in ongoing quality improvement activities.
- Maintain compliance with organization policies, established practices, and professional standards.
- Handle confidential patient information in accordance with regulations.
- Demonstrate excellent customer service in line with organizational values.
- Abide by professional standards, hospital policies, and federal, state, and local requirements.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and hold current licensure by the California State Board of Nursing.
- Current American Heart Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Advanced training in statistics, epidemiology, microbiology, and infection control.
- Minimum two years of experience in an acute care hospital.
- Demonstrated ability to interact with patients, families, physicians, and community agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ongoing attendance of seminars, workshops, and conferences in infection control and infectious diseases and Employee Health.
- Active participation in continuing education.
- Attendance at bi‑monthly Association of Practitioners in Infection Control meetings.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional Certifications
- Certification in Infection Control
- Certification Occupational Health Nursing Specialist
Semi‑sedentary: sits and walks throughout the workday; generally lifts objects not more than 25 lbs. or carries objects weighing up to 10 lbs.
