Job Summary
Provides assistance to Social Workers in the Child Welfare program. Operates under general supervision of a Social Work Supervisor and may be assigned additional duties as required. This role is classified as FLSA non‑exempt.
Position salary includes a 5% cost‑of‑living adjustment effective July 2026.
Typical Job Functions- Facilitate communications between clients, families, and community services.
- Conduct visits to applicants, recipients of services, and related facilities; record observations; refer concerns to the Social Work Supervisor.
- Answer informational and referral telephone calls from Social Workers and the public.
- Perform case‑maintenance tasks including file organization, mailing correspondence, database updates, and processing legal documents.
- Interview clients and supporting parties to obtain and verify data.
- Screen information for accuracy, request required documents and verify data.
- Assist clients in accessing medical, legal, and employment services.
- Communicate program policies and regulations to clients and others.
- Provide general administrative support for the department.
- Supervise visits with parents and children and document events; may provide childcare in the office.
- Transport children who are court‑dependent to appointments using appropriate restraints.
- Transport parents to court hearings, drug testing, visits, and community appointments.
- Assist parties in completing forms and locate required documents.
- Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and staff.
- Adhere to Privacy Act of 1974 standards and maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Associate’s degree in Social Work or Behavioral Sciences,
** or** - High School diploma or GED plus two (2) years of relevant work experience with children, youth or families in social services, education, behavioral health, probation, foster care, or community‑based setting.
Upcoming graduates may provide a letter from their university confirming impending graduation and necessary credits.
Internship from an accredited institution (2 semesters) may substitute for 6 months of required work experience; 2 semesters in a protected services agency may substitute for 1 year of experience.
Certifications and Licenses- Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license at the time of application and obtain a California driver’s license after hire.
- Mobility to work in an office and travel to various County sites; primarily sedentary office work with occasional standing and walking; ability to lift, carry, and move items up to 40 pounds.
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals, drugs, and infectious diseases.
- Work in household and office settings, potentially encountering hostile situations; non‑standard work hours may be required.
- Interaction with upset staff, public, and private representatives while enforcing policies and procedures.
