Position: TOOL CRIB ATTENDANT

SUMMARY

Issues tools and equipment to workers and maintains records of tools and equipment issued and returned. Locates lost or misplaced tools and equipment. Prepares periodic inventory and maintains perpetual inventory of tools and equipment using computer software and bar code readers. Receives, unpacks, and stores incoming tools and equipment, and requisitions stock to replenish inventory. Inspects and measures tools and equipment for defects and wear and reports damage or wear to supervisors.

Delivers tools or equipment to workers. Marks and identifies tools and equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Maintain tool crib inventory and stock levels for tools, fixtures, drills, taps, endmills, etc.
  • Inspect used tooling for wear and determine when resharpen is necessary
  • Order tooling and shop supplies
  • Build tools and tool kits for production work centers
  • Maintain running record of purchases, order status, and delivery updates
  • Work with programmers and machinists to order tooling needed for new parts
  • Maintain a clean and organized tool crib
  • Work with vendors to get quality products with the best pricing
  • Recommends Continuous Improvement Initiatives for work area to supervisor
  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Must complete WCSCC Journeyperson assessment

Job Knowledge

– Must have a background in machining and understand the different types of tooling for Lathes, Mills, & Grinders. Training and experience in modern planning and manufacturing processes, such as Lean, Six Sigma, Kan Ban, etc. APICS or related certification a plus. Should have experience in a production planning and control function, as well as management experience. Additional experience as a manufacturing manager would be a plus.

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

BS/BA or equivalent from an accredited college or technical school; or 3-5 years related experience and/or training, combined with technical training and/or appropriate certification.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to read blueprints. Applicants must also have a working knowledge of computers to access and update inventory software and budget spread sheets.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical…
