Foreign Language Teacher (Grades 7-12):
Spanish preferred SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to develop students' knowledge, skills and abilities in comprehending, speaking, reading and writing a language other than English, and to develop an understanding and appreciation of the native culture of the countries where the language is the primary means of communication.

The classroom teacher will create a class environment that implements the district articulated curriculum for their content area that provides positive learning experiences for all students, including providing each student with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to lead self‑sufficient, healthy, productive, socially responsible lives to the best of their individual potential. The teacher will establish positive relationships and rapport with students, parents, and staff members.

The teacher will document student progress, set appropriate learning goals, design lesson plans, plan activities and outcomes; address specific educational needs of all students; communicate feedback to student's parents and the administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. The teacher will use assessment results to guide and implement differentiated instructional strategies. The teacher will work collaboratively with staff, attend department meetings, and participate in extracurricular activities where appropriate.

The teacher will maintain professional competence through in‑service education, coursework, and professional growth activities, including active participation in our Professional Learning Community (PLC) process.

GENERAL LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS

  • Facilitate and promote collaborative decision‑making and consensus among groups of individuals with diverse interests, values, and needs.

  • Recommend solutions to a wide variety of issues for the purpose of addressing the short and long‑term needs of the District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develops and administers foreign language education curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in a language other than English, including comprehension, grammar and syntax, sentence and paragraph structure, composition, vocabulary and proper word usage, colloquialisms, communication and translation of literature.
  • Develops student understanding and appreciation of the cultures and mores of countries where the language is the predominant or a major means of communication.
  • Works with students and others to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications, contests, etc.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
