SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

The classroom teacher will create a class environment implementing the district articulated curriculum for their content area, providing positive learning experiences for all students, imparting the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes to lead self‑sufficient, healthy, productive, socially responsible lives to the best of their individual potential. The teacher will establish positive relationships and rapport with students, parents, and staff, document student progress, set learning goals, design lesson plans, plan activities and outcomes, address specific educational needs, communicate feedback to parents and administration, use assessment results to guide differentiated instructional strategies, work collaboratively with staff, attend department meetings, participate in extracurricular activities where appropriate, maintain professional competence through in‑service education, coursework, and professional growth activities, and participate in the Professional Learning Community (PLC) process.

GENERAL

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
  • Understand and support the educational environment and the District's Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.
  • Implement principles of research‑based best practices.
  • Facilitate and promote collaborative decision‑making and consensus among groups of individuals with diverse interests, values, and needs.
  • Participate as a member or facilitator in meetings, workshops, and seminars that may involve a wide range of issues for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job duties.
  • Recommend solutions to a wide variety of issues for the purpose of addressing the short and long‑term needs of the District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare teaching materials and reports to implement lesson plans and document teacher and student progress.
  • Implement district adopted curricula appropriate for the content area that integrate with the Washington State Learning Standards.
  • Report incidents of child abuse, altercations, and substance abuse to maintain personal safety of students and adhere to educational code of ethics and district/school policies.
  • Provide clear and focused instruction for all students using a variety of teaching strategies to meet the needs of all students, ensuring successful learning through the articulated curriculum and achievement of district/state student learning standards.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and monitor students to give feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress, expectations, and goals, using quality classroom‑based assessments and/or district/state assessment tools.
  • Establish and maintain a standard of student behavior to provide an orderly, safe, and productive learning environment.
  • Communicate positively and regularly with parents and/or legal guardians about growth, progress, teacher expectations, and collaborate meaningfully between home and school.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff, administrators, parents, support groups, governmental and community service agencies.
  • Collaborate with para educators, volunteers, and/or student aides to provide an effective school program.
  • Maintain appropriate confidential reports, records, and files in compliance with state/federal law.
  • Demonstrate experience and sensitivity affirming individuality and diversity.
  • Attend and participate in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District and/or building principal, including ongoing professional staff development, weekly PLC meetings, and enrichment days.
  • Educate special needs students within the regular classroom environment in collaboration with staff.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to individual students needing intervention to meet standards and to those who need enrichment.
