Location: Washington Soldiers Home, Orting, Washington
We are seeking an experienced certified Washington state dietitian who would love a chance to become a state employee. The position is based at the historic Washington Soldiers Home in scenic Orting.
Facility Differential: Eligible for “Supplement Basic Shift Premium” for 24/7 Facilities: an additional $1.00 per hour for each hour of basic shift premium (does not apply to overtime). Premium valid through June 29, 2027.
Responsibilities- Serve as expert resource for guidance and problem solving for nutritional issues.
- Perform assessments of residents per VA, Medicare, and Medicaid regulations to meet guidelines.
- Interpret dietary prescriptions.
- Recommend, formulate, and implement comprehensive resident nutritional care plans.
- Review and audit patient records.
- Communicate with nursing staff, food service staff, and other multidisciplinary team members.
- Document progress notes in a timely manner.
- Review and revise menus for modified diet needs.
- Provide support in planning and implementation of menus.
- Participate in quality assurance, data collection, and report preparation.
- Assist with development of policies and procedures.
- Train cooks, food service personnel, patients, or students in therapeutic meal preparation.
- Assist with providing new employee orientation.
- Bachelor's Degree majoring in Dietetics, Foods and Nutrition, or Food Service Administration from an accredited dietetics program.
- Certified Dietitian with the Washington State Department of Health.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
- Agency required competencies: ability to learn and grow; ability to meet the needs of others.
- Master's degree in food and nutrition or dietetics from an accredited program.
- At least 24 months recent full‑time experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist or equivalent.
- Certified Diabetes Educator.
- Certified specialist in Gerontological Nutrition.
- Organizational and project planning skills; strong Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Serve Safe certified.
- Experience with Point Click Care or other electronic medical record programs.
- Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years per WDVA policy.
- Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per DVA policy.
- Undergo medical evaluation, fit testing, and use of respiratory protection as required.
- Maintain current CPR certification.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. and reach a minimum of 36" with proper technique.
- Maintain a valid practical nursing license from the Washington State Department of Health.
- Maintain reliable attendance and willingness to work as needed.
- Complete orientation and mandatory training within required time frames.
- Familiarize and comply with all DVA policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
- Sign the confidentiality statement for all employees.
- Have a valid unrestricted driver's license and insurance if required for travel.
- Possess work authorization not requiring employer sponsorship.
