Overview

Washington Soldiers Home — Help us continue to fulfill our mission of "Serving Those Who Served" by providing essential quality of life care for our Veterans. We are accepting applications for a Registered Nurse 2 at the Washington Soldiers Home in Orting, WA.

Position

Registered Nurse 2 — Full Time-Permanent (Swing shift) at Washington Soldiers Home, Orting, WA.

Homes 24/7 facility differential pay: Updated as of July 1, 2025:
This position is eligible for "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 Facilities. An additional one dollar ($1.00) per hour of supplemental basic shift premium is provided for each hour of basic shift premium where duties are on location. This shift premium does not apply to overtime hours and expires on June 29, 2027.

Position

Schedule:

Tuesday through Saturday, 2:00 pm to 10:30 pm.
Hybrid/Telework: Not eligible for hybrid telework.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to veterans in need of skilled nursing care.
  • Maintain healthcare records according to current policies and procedures.
  • Administer medications and treatments for residents or monitor self-pour medications as needed.
  • Maintain incident logs and provide learning experiences and feedback regarding incidents for direct care staff on unit.
  • Encourage and empower residents and staff to meet residents' needs in a respectful, homelike environment.
  • Maintain open communication with staff and assist in the presentation of training materials to staff.
  • Perform nursing assessments of residents as necessitated by condition, and quarterly for Minimum Data Set completion.
  • Take responsibility for self-development by awareness of new techniques and medications.
  • Make rounds regularly to ensure compliance with unit expectations.
  • Hold the staffing book as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications: Must have a WA State RN license or an unencumbered multistate RN license.
  • Proficient in nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene, sanitation, record keeping, report preparation, infection control procedures, and resident rights.
  • Ability to assess, evaluate, and participate in the development of appropriate plans of care; plan, implement, and document discharge planning when appropriate; perform selected nursing procedures.
  • Proficient in English (read, write, and speak).
  • Preferred/Desired

    Qualifications:

    One year of RN experience; ability to provide a positive living environment, follow directions, document and report changes in patient condition; ability to earn trust and serve as a positive role model; long-term care experience.
Special Requirements
  • Pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two years (WDVA Policy 615.000). Background information will be considered in determining suitability.
  • Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening (DVA Policy 670.000).
  • Wear required PPE and perform duties with respirator use as applicable; lift up to 60 lbs; reach up to 36"; mobility requirements as described.
  • Maintain a valid practical nursing license from the State of Washington DOH.
  • Maintain regular attendance; complete orientation and mandatory trainings; comply with DVA policies, CBAs, and confidentiality.
  • Travelers must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and vehicle insurance for state business.
  • Candidates must have work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.
