The Role:

The Advisor – Europe & Africa, M&A and New Ventures
, based in our Uxbridge/London
office
, is part of a focused team reporting to the General Manager, Europe & Africa, M&A and New Ventures Exploration
. The team plays a critical role in supporting CNOOC International’s growth strategy, with responsibility for the origination, evaluation and recommendation of New Venture Exploration and M&A opportunities across the Europe and Africa region.

The role is accountable for the end‑to‑end project management of selected opportunities, from initial screening and evaluation through to internal approvals, offer development, negotiation, completion and final handover. The Advisor will set clear priorities, targets and timelines for project teams and may manage multiple opportunities concurrently. They will be expected to balance project governance with direct/hands‑on contributions, driving delivery in fast‑moving environments.

The successful candidate will bring strong knowledge in at least one of the following areas – technical, economic or commercial – supported by an awareness of the wider business environment. While projects will typically align with the individual’s background and expertise, there will also be opportunities to broaden experience, including occasional involvement in projects outside the region to support wider business development activities.

As a key member of the team, the Advisor is expected to demonstrate a strong personal commitment to safety and act as a role model across all activities. The role requires a proactive and resilient individual with strong analytical capability, able to synthesise complex data into clear, high‑quality assessments to support business growth.

What you will bring:

You will evaluate business opportunities and provide technically robust and commercially sound recommendations to support investment decisions. This requires developing a strong understanding of each opportunity across technical, economic and geopolitical dimensions, enabling confident input into senior‑level discussions.

You will manage opportunities through their lifecycle by coordinating multidisciplinary internal teams across technical, commercial, operational, finance, HR and legal functions, ensuring alignment and effective progression through internal governance processes.

The role also involves building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders – including energy companies, national oil companies (NOCs), government representatives and financial institutions. You will manage acquisition and divestment activities, including data purchase negotiations and post‑activity reviews to drive continuous improvement.
