Senior Project Manager/Estimator (Earthwork) Job Description
The Senior Project Manager/Estimator plays a critical role in driving business growth and project success by leading the estimating process, securing new work, and overseeing complex construction projects from award through completion. This position is responsible for developing competitive bid strategies, preparing comprehensive estimates, and building strong client relationships that support long-term business objectives. Once projects are awarded, the Senior Project Manager/Estimator provides strategic leadership across all phases of project execution, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, compliance, risk management, and client communication.
Leading some of the organization's largest and most complex projects, this role establishes project goals, directs resources, and ensures projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with quality, financial, and operational expectations. The role will also act as a mentor and guide to estimators and Project Managers, assisting them as needed.
- Lead the development, review, and submission of competitive estimates and proposals for private and public-sector construction opportunities.
- Prepare and oversee detailed estimates for complex projects, including quantity takeoffs, subcontractor and supplier pricing, cost analysis, bid strategy development, and proposal preparation.
- Provide leadership and oversight for multiple projects, guiding teams through planning, execution, and successful project delivery.
- Coordinate pre-construction meetings to align project teams, establish objectives, and ensure effective communication between field operations, project management, and support staff.
- Secure and maintain required permits, licenses, and project documentation to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Monitor project costs, productivity, labor, and material expenditures to maintain financial performance and profitability.
- Oversee project billing processes in partnership with Project Accountant, ensuring accurate invoicing, timely collections, effective cash flow management, and monthly reconciliation of project financials.
- Manage project changes and change orders, securing approvals and maintaining alignment between scope, schedule, and project profitability.
- Lead or participate in regular project meetings to communicate progress, resolve challenges, and align project objectives with field execution.
- Mentor, support, and provide leadership to Estimators and Project Managers, promoting professional growth, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide regular updates and strategic project insights to company leadership regarding operational performance, risks, opportunities, and key project developments.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and results-driven work environment focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and successful project delivery.
- Perform additional duties and special assignments as needed.
- Bachelor's degree/ 10+ years of related construction management experience preferred, with significant experience leading estimating efforts and managing large, complex construction projects within a related industry sector.
- OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and demonstrated knowledge of applicable safety precautions and procedures.
- Advanced understanding of construction estimating principles, cost analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and project financial management.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, as well as construction estimating and project management software platforms.
- Proficiency in applying mathematical concepts, including ratios, percentages, quantities, unit costs, and industry-standard construction calculations.
- Demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills to effectively coordinate project resources, staffing needs, schedules, and field activities.
- Provide clear directions, convey critical project information, and respond to questions, concerns, or complaints in a timely and professional manner.
- Skilled at responding professionally to client concerns, regulatory inquiries, project challenges, and operational issues.
- Working knowledge of HCSS, Blue Beam, Pro Core, or similar construction management software is preferred.
Proven leadership capabilities with experience managing, mentoring, and developing high-performing project and estimating teams.
Work Requirements- Must be 18 years of age.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must be able to commute and work in office.
- $120,000 - $180,000 annual salary based on experience
