Truss Designer

Overview

The Designer Hourly uses computer or technical tools to prepare detailed presentations of building material requirements and systems for assigned projects. This position may design and complete layouts of residential roof and floor systems for pricing and manufacturing.

• Design residential roof and floor systems and produce layouts.
• Discuss changes and corrections with engineers, architects, and contractors prior to and during construction.
• Present, sell and follow‑up on new jobs.
• Prepare roof truss and truss joist floor layouts.
• Perform job site inspections.
• Produce material lists.
• Determine special notes to append contracts.
• Resolve architectural and design discrepancies.
• Assist in the shipping department.
• Read and understand blueprints and detailed technical drawings.
• Use computer or other technical equipment to provide a technically accurate layout (takeoff) of a customer order.
• Adhere to local building codes and material constraints when developing material lists and design layouts.
• Produce final copies for contractor use for bathrooms, kitchens, decks, patios and others as assigned.
• Assist customers as required, providing accurate, timely, and thorough customer service.
• Measure and scale projects on site.
• Invoice project, schedule installation and delivery of products and materials.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Participate in and complete assigned trainings.

• High School or GED required.
• Associate's Degree in civil, architectural or design related field may be required.
• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Applicable work experience may be substituted for education requirement.

• 1 year of drafting experience in a construction or building materials‑related industry required.
• 1+ year of roof/floor truss design experience required.
• Experience with Mitek software strongly preferred.

• Proficient technical writing skills; excellent salesmanship and communication skills; proprietary software, AutoCAD, computer literate, ability to read technical drawings.
• Reading and interpreting blueprints in an architectural related industry.
• PC literate with Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD, and other design programs that facilitate learning in‑house programs with ease.
