Architectural Graduate

This role offers an Architectural Graduate or Architectural Designer the opportunity to support a multi-office architecture and engineering practice by producing and managing drawings from design development through construction documentation and project completion. Based in the Fort Wayne office and virtually supporting the Oshkosh, Wisconsin office, you will collaborate closely with principals and a team of architects and designers on a wide variety of project types, including historic preservation and adaptive reuse.

The position provides hands-on exposure to the full design and construction process and offers strong training and growth in project management within an architectural firm.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze project costs in the feasibility study stage and determine which drawings are required for each phase of the project.
  • Develop detailed cost estimates during the schematic design stage and coordinate with equipment and material specifiers.
  • Manage project timelines, track milestones, and ensure all due dates are met throughout the design process.
  • Perform design development activities, including additional client and user reviews and approvals.
  • Conduct city, county, and state code reviews to ensure designs comply with applicable regulations.
  • Refine design options and update detailed cost estimates based on client feedback and code requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive contract documents, including reviewing specifications with clients and incorporating their input.
  • Refine and finalize design options for inclusion in construction documents.
  • Perform the final development of architectural details to support construction documentation.
  • Review and coordinate structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and other specialty trade documents to ensure consistency and integration.
  • Develop fees and prepare submittals for statutory review and permitting processes.
  • Administer the bid and contract phase by reviewing bids, contractor invoices, and punch lists.
  • Review construction and shop drawings and resolve issues as they arise during construction.
  • Coordinate and direct day-to-day activities and performance requirements for construction and construction support.
  • Provide clear and timely daily reports on project progress and resource utilization.
  • Collaborate closely with the Oshkosh, WI and Fort Wayne, IN offices to support project delivery and production needs.
  • Support the architectural group in running assigned projects while also engaging with structural and MEP work performed in-house and by external consultants.
  • Participate in client meetings and occasional job site visits for project coordination and review.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture degree (flexibility to accept a Bachelor of Science in Architecture).
  • Architectural experience through internships or professional roles, including exposure to design and production tasks.
  • Experience creating architectural renderings for design communication and presentations.
  • Proficiency in Revit and Revit Architecture for design development and construction documentation.
  • Ability to perform schematic design, design development, and construction document production.
  • Familiarity with construction documents, construction drawings, and construction administration processes.
  • Capability to manage project timelines and support project management activities.
  • Strong understanding of architectural design principles and building systems.
  • Ability to perform code reviews at city, county, and state levels.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in cost estimating and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with clients, consultants, and internal teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Any construction experience or knowledge of construction practices is a plus.
  • Previous professional experience on commercial projects is highly beneficial.
  • Interest in working on historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and a wide variety of building types and materials.
  • Motivation to develop project management skills within an architectural firm environment.
  • Interest in collaborating with structural and MEP disciplines, both in-house and external.
