As the Education Director, you will be responsible for the development and administration of WMHI's educational and related services at Waterwood School, including general and special education, HSED preparation, and library services for eligible patients referred to WMHI.
Responsibilities include:
* Providing direct supervision of education staff, librarian, program assistant staff, and ancillary personnel.
* Serving as a member of the Clinical Excellence Team and State Education Directors group.
* Representing WMHI within DHS and DCTS committees and work groups.
Salary Information
The starting pay is between $44.50 and $49.50 per hour (approximately between $92,500 and $102,900 per year) depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 24-month career executive trial period is required.
An add-on pay up to an additional $2.97 per hour is available for relevant educational credits that are above those required for certification. An additional add-on of $1.00 per hour
* may be paid for bilingual skills in Spanish, Hmong, or American Sign Language.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 81/02.

If applicable, the selected candidate will be required to complete a language assessment in order to receive the add-on pay described above.
Job Details
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.
Must be able to bend, pull, kneel, squat, stoop and twist torso, and reach in a horizontal and vertical plane to place boxes, bags, and additional materials in the proper location on a large shelving unit or storage area. Must be able to walk in between buildings and units to meet with patients and staff.
May have to withstand verbal or physical attacks from patients/students (e.g., hits, scratches, kicks, etc.) as well as appropriate use of physical de-escalation techniques and restraint application in accordance with Institute policy/procedure training.
Qualifications
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
* Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Administrator by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (WDPI). Eligible is defined as having completed the education and hours requirement and being in the process of obtaining licensure. Licensure must be obtained prior to appointment.
* Experience teaching and using research-based instructional practices.
* Experience in a leadership role in school-wide initiatives, committees, strategic planning, or special education with an understanding of education-related state and federal laws (e.g., Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Department of Public Instruction (DPI) regulations for certified schools, Act 20, etc.).
* Experience in a leadership or supervisory role over other staff members (e.g., leading projects or programs, training or mentoring other staff, reviewing or assigning work, completing performance evaluations, etc.).
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
* Experience organizing, preparing, and ensuring budgets are maintained and implemented within policy, including resource allocation.
* Experience using educational technology and related programs (e.g., budget and student management systems, etc.).
* Experience providing educational services to students with mental health issues, behavioral issues, or at-risk youth.
