Position Summary

As a Teacher at WRC, you will instruct residents in basic academic skills and assist in their preparation for the General Educational Development (GED) test. Additional duties include:

* Facilitating treatment groups and self-improvement classes

* Managing and coordinating educational programs

* Counseling and guiding residents

* Developing professional skills

* Maintaining security in the school area.

Salary Information

The starting pay for this position is between $29.50 and $35.06 per hour (approximately between $61,300 and $72,900 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. Add-on pay up to an additional $2.97 per hour is available for relevant educational credits that are above those required for certification. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 13/04.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to these positions will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by WRC or medical personnel approved by the facility within 30 days of the start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:

* Bachelor's Degree or higher with at least 15 semester credits in a single academic area (i.e., Math, Reading, English/Communications, Science, or Social Studies) AND 3 credits of Reading Instruction or Teaching Methods.

Note:

The 3 credits of Reading Instruction or Teaching Methods may be completed within the first year of employment.

* OR

* Wisconsin DPI license in Special Education, Elementary Education, or Secondary Education in a core academic area (i.e., Math, Science, English, or Social Studies).

Note:

This does not include Health, Art, Music, or Physical Education.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

* Experience providing education or training on academic skills and GED/HSED preparation.

* Experience participating in cooperative teaching programs with other departments or units (e.g., therapeutic services, clinical services, social services, unit staff, etc.).

* Training or experience using classroom management techniques for students with special needs, emotional/behavioral issues, or mental illness.

* Experience writing or working with Individual Education Plans (IEP's) including special education certification.
