Adjunct Faculty
Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to teach English Language Learning (ELL). FVTC adjunct faculty are dynamic partners for both students and the College. An adjunct instructor works with students beyond the classroom to ensure their success, models FVTC core values, and demonstrates commitment to excellence in program/course content and delivery. An adjunct instructor can work effectively in a collaborative environment;
is willing to innovate and change to meet evolving program and industry needs; and demonstrates competency with use of technology that supports learning and teaching. Generally, an adjunct instructor will be hired to instruct specific open classes based upon the adjunct instructor's qualifications and availability.
- Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by developing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and support student engagement. Employ learning experiences that integrate multiple delivery methodologies and instructional technologies to maximize student success, such as hybrid, in-person, virtual, and on-line course delivery.
- Assessment – Assess student learning and provide regular feedback to help students be successful. Use data to measure quality outcomes related to course success and learning and implement improvement strategies based on the evidence.
- Classroom Management – Fulfill assigned schedule, maintain accurate student attendance and grade records, maintain instructional environment with emphasis on safety, housekeeping, and equipment security, and ensure opportunities for student/engagement evaluation.
- Team Participation – Support the college by engaging with the department, as well as staying current with internal and external changes and initiatives.
- Business & Community Engagement - Build and maintain ongoing relationships with community, industry, and clinical partners. Proactively promote the College and our programs.
- Student Success & Support – Serve as an advocate for students and collaborate with Student Services staff to retain students, close achievement gaps, and help all students be successful.
- Professional Development – Continually improve knowledge and skills in emerging trends, current occupational practices and teaching through professional development activities, and current employment in the field. Maintain Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and licensure required to maintain individual and program accreditation.
- Curriculum Development – If needed, develop curriculum and instructional materials that are competency-based, current, consistent with employer expectations, and aligned with the college policy on the level of required documentation.
Instructors who teach English Language Learning (ELL) courses, must have:
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with minor in ESL, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, or Foreign Language instruction, (Master's degree preferred), OR
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a combination of 15 semester credits in ESL, Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL), Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), Applied Linguistics, Bilingual Education, or Foreign Language instruction (Master's degree preferred).
- Experience in delivering instruction by alternative methods such as online in a synchronous and asynchronous modality is preferred.
- Familiarity with computer applications, particularly Collaborate, Blackboard, Microsoft Office, Teams, OERs, and other programs that promote student success is preferred. Knowledge of a foreign language is highly desirable.
- Sitting:
This role requires extended periods of sitting while performing tasks and utilizing computer systems. - Mobility:
