Engineer II- Thermoforming Focused

Job Description

Second working level of the engineering series. Incumbents perform moderate to complex engineering tasks with limited supervision and lead routine engineering projects. This role has no direct reports.

This role will report within the Corporate Engineering structure and encompass all aspects of project management and engineering. The focus of this role resides in the Thermoforming aspects of Amcor Flexibles North America.

  • Provides purchasing services for project materials—reviews vendors, contacts them, coordinates with Purchasing, issues purchase orders, negotiates prices, and expedites delivery.

  • Manages project costs and scheduling, communicating pertinent data to appropriate areas.
  • Completes project close‑out and postmortem analysis for appropriate projects.

  • Participates actively on continuous improvement/kaizen teams and leads teams as requested.
  • Maintains knowledge of current industry practices as they apply to Amcor products and equipment.
  • Assists with installation, checkout, start‑up, and training as necessary.
• Facilities
  • Recognizes and applies successful company best practices to engineering design, layout, and installations.
  • Performs testing and validation of facility and manufacturing infrastructure designs and systems.
  • Performs engineering calculations to support facility and manufacturing infrastructure work.
  • Creates and reviews technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software.
• Controls
  • Creates and plans programming, configuration, integration, networking, and communication services using equipment and software from a variety of HMI, SCADA, and PLC manufacturers.
  • Performs testing and validation of machine instrumentation with the controls package.
  • Fosters integration and development of team IT resources related to engineering functions such as PLC/machine control, HMI function, and edge device use.
  • Creates and reviews technologies for future applications and extensions of current architecture.
• Mechanical
  • Creates and plans designs for mechanical machine systems.
  • Performs testing and validation of mechanical machine designs and systems.
  • Performs engineering calculations to support design and mechanical engineering work.
  • Creates and reviews technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software.
• Electrical
  • Creates and plans designs for electrical machine systems.
  • Performs testing and validation of electrical machine designs and systems.
  • Performs engineering calculations to support design and electrical engineering work.
  • Creates and reviews technical drawings, plans, and specifications using computer software.
• Industrial
  • Conducts studies for small‑scale projects pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control, and production record systems.
  • Validates IE requirements for small‑scale projects with multiple automation integrators and verifies alignment with business strategies using Just‑In‑Time/Lean manufacturing tools.
  • Collects and analyzes data for small‑scale projects; works with the IPT to validate current state processes and establish an accurate operational model.
  • Establishes Discrete Event Simulation (DES) baseline and collaborates with the IPT to propose and validate future automation solutions that improve cycle time, WIP, bottlenecks, throughput, capacity, resource utilization, and production rate of complex production systems.
