Project Engineer — Combat Vehicle Systems Position Summary
The Project Engineer will lead and manage complex engineering projects supporting combat vehicle systems. This position is responsible for coordinating engineering activities across mechanical, electrical, software, controls, and vehicle-level disciplines while ensuring technical, schedule, budget, and customer requirements are achieved.
The Project Engineer will support the integration of a weapon system onto a vehicle platform
, leading technical activities across multiple engineering teams and suppliers. Responsibilities include breaking down technical requirements, estimating labor, coordinating proposals and evaluations, managing subcontractor activities, tracking cost and schedule, and presenting project status, risks, budgets, and technical information to U.S. Government customers and senior leadership.
The ideal candidate combines a strong engineering background with proven technical project management experience and an understanding of complex electro-mechanical and vehicle systems.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate engineering projects involving mechanical, electrical, software, controls, and vehicle systems.
- Indirectly lead multidisciplinary teams consisting of engineers, designers, and technicians.
- Provide direct task leadership for design engineers and designers supporting assigned projects.
- Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, status reports, and other project documentation.
- Break down technical and system requirements into executable engineering tasks.
- Estimate engineering labor, resources, cost, and schedule requirements.
- Coordinate technical proposals, evaluations, quotations, and presentations.
- Prepare subcontractor Statements/Scopes of Work and coordinate technical activities with external suppliers.
- Manage supplier relationships and associated technical documentation, including Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs).
- Develop and review Interface Control Documentation with suppliers and business partners across mechanical, electrical, software, and controls disciplines.
- Coordinate vehicle-, system-, subsystem-, and component-level integration activities.
- Perform and support engineering analysis, design, redesign, validation, and troubleshooting of complex heavy-duty vehicle components and systems.
- Support electro-mechanical system integration and root-cause analysis.
- Develop and support DFMEA and DVP&R activities.
- Evaluate designs for performance, safety, reliability, and compliance with engineering requirements.
- Work with internal engineering teams, business functions, suppliers, and external customers to resolve technical issues.
- Present and defend technical decisions to engineering leadership, senior management, and external customers.
- Present project risks, status, budget, schedule, and technical information to U.S. Government customers.
- Manage multiple priorities while ensuring project milestones are completed on time and within budget.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and other team members.
- Ensure appropriate engineering analysis is completed and properly documented.
- Maintain project documentation supporting analysis, research, technical decisions, and historical records.
- Support production by analyzing and resolving complex technical issues.
- Participate in budgeting activities, including capital improvement recommendations and justification.
- Develop and improve engineering methodologies, procedures, and best practices.
- Ensure engineering activities comply with company policies, procedures, criteria, and drawing standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience
. - Minimum of 2 years of successful engineering project management experience supporting projects of medium or greater technical complexity.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering activities.
- Experience working with complex mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with root-cause analysis and electro-mechanical system integration
