These are career executive positions with direct supervisory responsibility for sworn law enforcement supervisors, administrators, and non‑sworn program staff. Both of these positions are sworn state law enforcement executives having the authority and obligation to investigate crimes, use reasonable force (up to and including deadly force), and effectuate arrests. PRSP is dedicated to protecting, enhancing, and promoting public safety and the State’s natural resources through enforcement, education, and community involvement, and encourage everyone to be stewards of our natural resources on behalf of future generations.
These positions have statewide responsibility and may be headquartered at any DNR facility within the state, depending on office space availability and the location of the selected candidate. Remote work may be available for a portion of the work week, after the initial onboarding period!

PositionSummary
The Conservation Warden Major – RSOS is accountable for the successful administration of the total Division of Public Safety & Resource Protection (PSRP) Bureau of Recreational Safety & Outdoor Skills (RSOS) program. This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the Department marine enforcement, recreational enforcement, education and safety programs for the DNR statewide. The RSOS Major ensures the efficient and effective implementation of the Hunter, Boating, Snowmobile, and ATV safety programs, as well as the hunter, angler, and trapper recruitment/retention/reactivation (R3) and shooting range programs throughout Wisconsin.
It develops and maintains working relationships with key internal and external partners and customers while integrating the safety programs and other educational efforts with other department wide information, education and outreach programs.
The Conservation Warden Major - Training supervises and administers the PSRP statewide training program, directing long‑range planning initiatives, budget and operational planning and implementation, directing team operations and employee supervision, and evaluating program efficiency and effectiveness. This position is responsible for the development of training policies and procedures, implements and coordinates the hiring and training of a 220 FTE Conservation Warden force and 12 seasonal LTE Community Service Officers (CSOs).
Through division‑wide program supervisors, this position indirectly manages up to 100 Training and Standards Bureau Certified Instructors, 100 Background Investigators, and 60 Field Training Officers that support the training bureau’s hiring, academy, and training programs. The Training Major is responsible for ensuring consistent application of all Department policy for the enforcement program, as well as appropriate training to maintain proficiency and compliance.
Information
Starting pay for these positions is between $58.50 to $61.08 per hour (or $121,680 to $ annually), in addition to excellent benefits. Current state employee pay on appointment will follow the provisions of the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan.
These positions are included in the classification Conservation Warden Major within Pay Schedule/Range 81‑01. These positions are not represented by a collective bargaining unit. A two‑year Career Executive trial period will be required.
