Position Summary

As a Transportation Facilities Repair Worker, you will be performing all duties as assigned in a safe and timely manner for WMHI and the Wisconsin Resource Center (WRC).

Responsibilities include:

* Operating state vehicles to deliver and/or transport mail, supplies, linens, garbage, furnishings, etc.

* Working around patients and inmates when delivering supplies.

* Performing general maintenance duties such as cleaning battery terminals, lubricating and maintaining fluid levels for equipment, etc.

* Performing minor repairs on equipment and furnishings.

* Assembling and installing items such as bookcases, shelves, desks, etc.

Salary Information

The starting pay is $20.34 per hour (approximately $42,300 per year) plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/10.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.

This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements for the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle policy, which are:

* Must possess a valid driver's license;

* Must have minimum of two years non-probationary licensed driving experience with a regular (Class

D) driver's license;

* Must be at least 18 years of age.

Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:

* Three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two years;

* Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months;

* Suspension or revocation of driver's license.

This position has physical requirements which include but are not limited to lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling laundry carts weighing up to 600 pounds when full, working outside in various weather conditions as necessary, and climbing ladders and scaffolding.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have the following:

* Experience operating material handling equipment such as a forklift, hand truck, tugger or tractor, material carts, etc.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

* Experience operating supply trucks or tractors to deliver items such as supplies, furnishings, maintenance equipment/tools, etc.

* Training or experience performing minor repairs such as basic cabinetry, repairing doors and hardware, preventative facility maintenance, etc.
