Position: Director, Literacy Math and Assessment (LMA)

Overview

SUMMARY The Literacy, Math, and Assessment (LMA) Director reports directly to the Executive Director of Adult and System Learning and is responsible for leading, directing, and overseeing the Literacy, Math, and Assessment areas within CESA
6. This role provides strategic leadership to ensure high-quality services, products, and partnerships that advance teaching, learning, and educational outcomes across districts.

Through collaborative leadership and system-level thinking, the LMA Director ensures services are coherent, scalable, and responsive to evolving educational needs while strengthening alignment across agency initiatives and strategic priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Center Responsibilities
    • Oversee and support all projects, products and services designed, delivered and supported by the LMA Center.
    • Build relationships, advocate, and influence ideas with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
    • Represent the agency and school districts in matters related to literacy, mathematics, and assessment initiatives at regional and state levels.
    • Lead and drive an influential thought leadership culture and presence, delivering value and expertise to stakeholders.
    • Develop and maintain expertise in current research, instructional frameworks, and state/federal policies impacting literacy, mathematics, and assessment practices.
    • Lead strategic planning for the Literacy, Math, and Assessment areas to ensure alignment with agency priorities and district needs.
    • Perform, monitor, and report on annual outcomes aligned to Agency and Center KPIs.
    • Develop long-term strategies and sponsor key initiatives to promote and achieve a culture of service excellence and employee engagement.
    • Attend appropriate conferences, workshops, and in-services.
  • Budgetary Responsibilities
    • Co-develop and proactively monitor the grant budget with the Executive Director, Adult & System Learning, and finance department, making adjustments as necessary.
    • Ensure utilization of agency protocol for the financial management of Center revenue and expenses.
    • Responsible for the management and execution of grant or contract-related processes in accordance with and in alignment with the fiscal and operational policies of the agency and within the constraints of grants or contracts.
  • Direct Product/Service Responsibilities
    • Oversee the development and delivery of literacy, mathematics, and assessment services, including consulting, coaching, professional learning, and self-paced eLearning.
    • Lead initiatives related to learning assessment systems, data analysis, and district improvement planning.
    • Support school district leaders in building capacity to use assessment data for instructional decision-making and continuous improvement.
    • Develop and manage consulting contracts aligned to literacy, mathematics, and assessment priorities.
    • Facilitate professional learning aligned with DPI initiatives, state standards, and evidence-based instructional practices.
    • Collect and analyze regional data trends to inform service design and district support.
    • Guide the development of scalable products and services that are usable across diverse district contexts.
    • Strengthen cross-center collaboration to ensure coherence across professional learning services.
  • Personnel Leadership Responsibilities
    • Lead, manage, and ensure accountability for a diverse work team.
    • Develop and support employee engagement, excellence, and expertise through one-on-one coaching and agency evaluation processes.
    • Define clear roles and responsibilities for Center team members and effectively delegate work.
    • Collaborate with HR in the recruitment, selection, assignment, contracts and evaluation of Center personnel.
    • Provide direction and feedback to program assistant(s) who are supporting the program management and service delivery for the Center.
  • Other Functions
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Take responsibility for professional growth based on feedback, research, and best practice.
    • Seek opportunities to present at local and state-level conferences.
Qualifications
