Position: Research Scientist I Pediatrics

Summary

Supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the principal investigator’s research projects. Perform experiments, analyze data, compile results, and monitor quality control processes to ensure research integrity. Assist with clinical research projects in autonomic neuroscience, disorders of gut‑brain interaction, and non‑invasive neuromodulation therapies under the supervision of the PI. Join an expanding, NIH‑funded, nationally recognized research team conducting cutting‑edge pediatric neurogastroenterology studies.

Responsibilities
  • Design and execute complex research procedures.
  • Develop and perform routine and advanced protocols for research programs.
  • Perform clinical trial procedures and develop trial designs for children with gut‑brain interaction, dysautonomia, and gastric motility disorders.
  • Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring quality activities.
  • Collaborate with the principal investigator on study design and statistical analyses.
  • Develop and implement computational and database methods for data management.
  • Serve as primary statistician for specific datasets when required.
  • Develop new methodologies for laboratory data analysis (e.g., heart rate variability, fNIRS, gastric MR imaging).
  • Maintain supplies, negotiate with vendors, and track purchase orders.
  • Maintain equipment, supervise repairs, and update hardware and software.
  • Teach and train new lab members in techniques and analytical procedures.
  • Participate in meetings, evaluate data validity, and develop methodologies.
  • Oversee laboratory personnel, including training and work direction.
  • Conduct literature searches and prepare materials for publications and grants.
  • Complete training in fNIRS and EKG data analysis, including artifact checking and cleaning.
  • Assist with new clinical research procedures such as gastric MRI and high‑resolution electrogastrography.
  • Assist with manuscript and grant writing.
  • Assist with data collection and organization as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • PhD in a scientific field.
  • 0 years of related experience (or equivalent).
Physical Requirements

Occasional lifting of moderate weight, standing, or walking continuously. Exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids in an environmentally controlled setting. Sensory acuity: ability to detect and translate speech; occasional need to distinguish colors and perceive distances.
