Managing Director of Medical Sales is responsible for driving profitable growth through new business development and expansion of assigned key accounts. This role supports medical device OEM customers by selling technically differentiated manufacturing solutions, including laser processing, rotary and flatbed die cutting, converting, CNC-enabled processes, and precision assembly.
The position focuses on medical applications such as wearable medical devices, disposable diagnostics, microfluidics, advanced wound care, and related products. Acting as the primary commercial interface, the Medical Device Sales Representative works closely with engineering, quality, and operations teams to guide opportunities from early concept and quoting through production launch and ongoing account growth.
Job ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development & Account Management
- Identify, pursue, and develop new medical device opportunities within assigned markets or territory.
- Manage and grow key customer accounts through repeat business and new applications
- Build strong working relationships with customer engineering, sourcing, quality, and operations teams
- Proactively contact prospective and inactive customers to generate new opportunities and market insight targeting meetings two to three days per week.
- Maintain accurate customer records, pipelines, and forecasts within CRM systems
Consultative & Technical Selling
- Assist customers in determining application suitability via phone, virtual meetings, and onsite visits.
- Review customer drawings, sketches, specifications, and sample parts to understand requirements.
- Present manufacturing capabilities in laser processing, die cutting, converting, and precision assembly.
- Collaborate with engineering, programming, quality, and production to evaluate feasibility and manufacturability.
- Support design-for-manufacturing (DFM) discussions and early development activities.
- Organize and conduct customer demonstrations, plant tours, and technical capability reviews.
- Lead the commercial portion of RFQs and RFPs.
- Coordinate internal inputs to develop accurate estimates and quotations.
- Develop pricing structures aligned with margin and business unit goals.
- Actively track open quotes and drive opportunities to closure.
- Communicate delivery expectations and close orders.
- Support NDAs, manufacturing agreements, and customer-specific requirements.
Project & Order Support
- Lead or participate in cross‑functional project teams to support successful program launches.
- Clearly define and communicate customer requirements for engineering and production success.
- Maintain ongoing customer contact regarding changes, issues, or scheduling.
- Participate in internal opportunity reviews and launch readiness meetings.
Continuous Improvement & Market Development
- Regularly analyze services provided to identify opportunities for improved quality, efficiency, or capability expansion.
- Support the development of new medical market segments and applications.
- Assist with marketing activities, including trade shows, customer visits, and technical demonstrations.
- Monitor individual performance relative to departmental goals and objectives.
- 2 or more years of sales or technical sales experience in medical device, contract manufacturing, die cutting, or industrial environments.
- Experience selling technically complex manufacturing solutions.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and purchase orders.
- Experience working in ISO 13485 and FDA-regulated environments preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, written communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with CRM and standard business software.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25–50%.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technical, or Business discipline.
- Background in laser processing, die cutting, converting, CNC machining, or precision assembly.
- Familiarity with pressure‑sensitive adhesives, films, foams, and multi‑layer constructions.
- Experience supporting wearable, diagnostic, microfluidic, or wound care medical products.
- Established OEM contacts in the Medical Industry.
