SUMMARY
Directs and coordinates the educational, administrative, and counseling activities of staff and students in grades K-5.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Assumes the leadership role in controlling the school and its activities.
- Serves as the educational leader of the staff in matters of instruction, curriculum, and school improvement.
- Evaluates the educational program to ensure conformance to state and school board standards.
- Coordinates educational programs through meetings with staff, review of grade level activities, and issuance of directives.
- Coordinates and supervises assemblies, convocations, and extracurricular activities or designates a representative to supervise such activities.
- Maintains proper behavior and discipline at all school functions; makes determinations in all student discipline referral cases.
- Develops student incentive and recognition programs.
- Conducts regularly scheduled staff and grade level meetings.
- Confers with teaching personnel, pupils, and parents on matters pertaining to educational and behavioral problems in school.
- Make decisions on promotion, retention, and grade-level assignments for students.
- Oversees all facets of Daycare Program and Latchkey.
- Evaluates staff as defined by the master contract; conducts appraisal conference with staff who have been evaluated; submits written report on the appraisal to the Superintendent.
- Reviews all requests from staff for professional and personal business absences; forwards approved requests to the Central Office for final approval.
- Participates in professional development activities that support school improvement initiatives as well as personal learning goals.
- Oversees maintenance and record keeping of school accounts.
- Supervises student registration so that all pupils' legal names, birth dates, and other pertinent data are on file.
- Keeps records requested by the superintendent or his representative.
- Requisition s and allocates supplies, equipment, and instructional materials as needed.
- Works cooperatively with others in areas that affect the total school operation, such as transportation, technology, maintenance, food service, etc.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with community members/organizations and other schools to coordinate educational services.
- Performs additional duties necessary for the promotion of a sound educational program.
Directly supervises classroom teachers and support staff assigned to the school. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the corporation's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEFifth year college or university program certificate;
Indiana teaching license and school administrator license; prior administrative experience and/or training.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as educational journals, financial reports, safety rules, and procedure manuals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from certified and support staff. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to all staff, students, parents, the public, and/or members of the School Board.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to work with mathematical concepts appropriate for the responsibilities of an elementary school principal.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLSAbility to utilize equipment, technology, and work aids appropriate to the functions of an elementary school principal.
