Job DescriptionPosition Summary
:
The Student Excellence and Engagement Specialist supports district and school teams by implementing restorative practices and behavioral, academic, social‑emotional, and attendance supports within an MTSS framework. The specialist collaborates with leaders to develop proactive systems and interventions that improve student outcomes and strengthen school climate. Particular focus is on students who are disengaged or at risk, helping them reconnect and succeed.
Functions
- Collaborate with student excellence and engagement teams to align district initiatives, discipline policies, preventative practices, and student interventions.
- Lead implementation of restorative practices district wide to foster positive school climates, healthy relationships, and effective conflict resolution.
- Support the development and implementation of district policies and practices that promote equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness.
- Coordinate communication and collaboration among district leadership, principals, teachers, deans, and other departments and programs.
- Demonstrate commitment to collaborative problem‑solving and continuous improvement.
- Utilize knowledge of academic and behavioral MTSS frameworks to guide prevention‑focused interventions and student supports.
- Assist schools in developing and implementing evidence‑based behavioral, academic, attendance, and social‑emotional interventions.
- Facilitate assessments and evaluations to determine the effectiveness of programs and services supporting student well‑being.
- Apply expertise in behavioral, academic, social‑emotional, and attendance interventions to address complex student situations.
- Analyze student data, including disciplinary and attendance information, to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and support implementation of data‑driven strategies that promote positive student behavior, engagement, and academic success.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and recommend program improvements based on outcomes.
- Provide professional development and coaching to staff regarding restorative practices, MTSS, social‑emotional learning, and student engagement.
- Facilitate adult learning opportunities and support implementation of evidence‑based instructional and behavioral practices.
- Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty‑five (25) pounds.
- Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
- Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.
- Must be able to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate or ESA Certificate required.
- Candidates who do not currently hold a Washington State certificate may be considered if eligible to pursue a conditional certificate and possess appropriate and relevant education, training, and professional experience aligned with the responsibilities.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful, student‑centered classroom teaching or counseling experience.
- Experience creating and sustaining culturally responsive learning environments.
- Experience implementing restorative practices and/or social‑emotional learning programs.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity and culturally responsive practices.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Starting Date: 2026‑2027 School Year (182 total contracted days).
Salary: $66,897 – $128,954 annual salary based on education and experience per OEA CBA – 2026‑2027 Salary Schedule.
Retirement:
Pension through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.
Clearances:
Criminal Justice fingerprint/background clearance.
FLSA Status:
Exempt.
