Job Description

The Othello School District is accepting applications for the following position which is non-continuing and will not exceed 10 hours per week and will not work more than 3 days per week. Scheduling of hours will be determined after hire based on availability.

AVID Tutor @ McFarland Middle School or Othello High School

  • Work with teacher to facilitate collaborative tutor groups.
  • Re-enforce AVID strategies.
  • Assist students in note-taking processes.
  • Assist students to complete college eligibility requirements.
  • Provide academic support for students in rigorous courses.
  • Serve as a role model/mentor to AVID students.
  • Other duties as assigned by building administrators.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED or current high school student that is currently enrolled in college and at college level in Math, English & Science.
  • High understanding and knowledge in Math & Science or other middle school subjects.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with students.
  • Demonstrated skill to communicate effectively, strong interpersonal skills and excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with, motivate and mentor students from diverse backgrounds to prepare for graduation and college entrance.
  • Experience working in secondary school setting or with high school students.
  • Familiarity with state math and reading/language arts and college admissions’ assessments.
  • Preferred – Bilingual in English & Spanish.
  • Able to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
  • Ability to adjust focus (adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at 20 inches or less, and clear vision at 20 feet or more.
