Housekeepers play a vital role in maintaining a clean and sanitary hospital environment to help prevent the spread of infection. Duties include cleaning all areas of the facility—such as surgery rooms, acute care, OB, ED, offices, and hallways. The role requires the ability to perform routine tasks despite frequent interruptions and to interact with patients respectfully.

Housekeepers report to a supervisor and are expected to follow job‑related instructions. The key responsibilities below do not include all possible duties; additional tasks may be assigned by a supervisor.

  • Location: Othello Community Hospital, Othello, WA
  • Schedule: 16 hours per week, rotating evenings, on‑call, weekends, and holidays.
  • Work in all areas of hospital with a focus on patient care areas.
  • Status:Part‑Time
  • Wage Range:$18.74 – $33.95/hour
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform daily cleaning and sanitization of patient rooms, restrooms, offices, hallways, and public areas to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Conduct thorough terminal cleaning following patient discharge.
  • Always adhere to hospital infection prevention and safety protocols.
  • Operate housekeeping equipment, including vacuums, floor buffers, and carts, safely and efficiently.
  • Properly dispose of waste and soiled linens; restock supplies as necessary.
  • Respond promptly to cleaning requests and urgent situations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and log in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with nursing, maintenance, and other departments to ensure a clean and safe environment.
  • Keep utility and storage rooms organized and orderly.
  • Distribute laundered articles and linens to designated storage areas; clean and rehang soiled drapes and cubicle curtains in patient rooms.
  • Clean floors and carpeted areas as required.
  • Replenish supplies such as paper products and cleaning materials.
  • Observe and report any irregularities or concerns to the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Prior housekeeping or janitorial experience in a healthcare setting is a plus, but not required
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to read and speak in English.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays
