Position OverviewLes Petits Ballets is seeking an experienced Rehearsal Director to support the Artistic Team in a pre-professional ballet training environment. The Rehearsal Director leads rehearsals, maintains repertoire, and upholds the company’s artistic and technical standards. This role serves as a key liaison between dancers, choreographers, and management, ensuring consistency and artistic excellence—particularly when choreographers are not in residence.
The Rehearsal Director plays a central role in the day-to-day artistic life of the company by coaching dancers, documenting choreography, and collaborating closely with production and administrative teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesArtistic Leadership
- Lead rehearsals for new and existing repertoire
- Teach and maintain choreography with accuracy, musicality, and artistic integrity
- Uphold the artistic standards of the company
- Learn, stage, and maintain repertoire using video, notation, and archival materials
- Document choreography, spacing, musicality, and artistic changes
- Support restaging and remounting of works with available resources
Scheduling & Production Coordination
- Create and manage rehearsal schedules in collaboration with the Managing Director
- Coordinate with production team
- Support smooth transitions from studio to stage
Dancer Development & Support
- Provide coaching, feedback, and mentorship to children, youth and pre-professional dancers
- Foster a positive, respectful, and focused rehearsal environment
- Demonstrate awareness of dancer health, wellness, and injury prevention
- Serve as the primary point of contact for dancers during rehearsals
- Communicate artistic goals and expectations clearly
- Work closely with the Artistic Director, Managing Director, choreographers, stage managers, and administrative staff
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- In-depth knowledge of classical ballet technique, musicality, and repertoire
- Experience working with youth dancers and professional guest artists
- Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
- Understanding of dancer health, wellness, and safe rehearsal practices
- Familiarity with dance notation, video documentation, and artistic archiving
- Ability to maintain a collaborative and professional studio environment
- Professional ballet performance background
- Previous experience as a Rehearsal Director, Ballet Master/Mistress, or similar role
- Experience working with classical repertoire
