Your Role

You will help showcase the best cultural content from our regional programs, pitch compelling original story ideas tied to current events, secure on-air guests to talk about them and build comprehensive research packs. Work must adhere to CBC/Radio-Canada journalistic and/or program policies, practices and standards, but initiative and independent judgment are required.

You may be required to support the news gathering efforts of producers and reporters, as well as file your own reports or conduct on-air interviews. Your work may also be presented across all Radio-Canada platforms — TV, radio and digital.

Key Tasks
  • Pitch fresh story ideas for our programs; help execute our Cultural Strategy in alignment with regional radio programming goals.
  • Review and curate regional arts content to identify and develop stories likely to appeal to a nationwide audience.
  • Pitch stories that show a strong understanding of issues affecting French-speaking communities across the country.
  • Assist in developing program content, including writing, researching and/or editing.
  • Organize the participation of interviewees, creative contributors and other participants; develop background, introduction and line of questioning; conduct or arrange for any necessary research; and ensure the briefing of hosts.
  • Produce relevant, audience-driven reports that reflect current cultural conversations among the general public.
  • Maintain contact files.
  • Participate in the evaluation of all aspects of the production.
What You Bring
  • University degree or equivalent.
  • Two (2) or more years’ relevant experience, during which you would gain exposure to journalism.
  • Demonstrated writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to chase and book French-speaking guests and synthesize information for hosts in a briefing document.
  • High level of concentration and organization.
  • Strong news judgment under tight deadline conditions.
  • Ability to develop and maintain a network of relevant sources.
  • Strong news sense and awareness of what’s happening on the Canadian and international arts scene.
  • Thorough familiarity and understanding of CBC/Radio-Canada’s Journalistic Standards and Practices.
  • Bilingualism (English and French).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to handle a variety of functions quickly and efficiently, occasionally at the same time.
  • Ability to solve problems independently and through group discussions (open to new ideas and approaches).
  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada production applications (Scoop, iNews and Dalet) is an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines.
Background Check and Testing

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

As part of our recruitment process, candidates who advance to the next step will be asked to complete a background check. This includes:

  • A mandatory Criminal record check.
  • Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
