Radio-Canada is seeking a dynamic Senior Writer to research and write content to be featured across its national and regional radio, television and digital platforms. In this role, you will focus on fact‑checking, image verification and news analysis, with a core mission to expose complex disinformation and debunk fake news trends. To excel in this position, you must possess exceptional storytelling and writing skills tailored for both broadcast and digital media.
This role may involve coordinating the activities of others and requires close collaboration with the programming unit and regional teams, particularly on joint investigations and content initiatives with the Décrypteurs team.
- Monitor and research regional and national issues surrounding disinformation and fake news by cultivating a diverse network of sources across social media, private messaging platforms and online communities.
- Authenticate claims, statistics, images and videos circulating publicly and online using open‑source intelligence (OSINT) and deep primary‑source verification.
- Craft clear and concise on‑air and digital content that explains these issues, providing detailed analysis to help listeners, viewers and online audiences understand the verification process and its findings.
- Critically review, edit and provide constructive feedback on scripts, copy and production elements created by team members.
- Co‑ordinate the exchange of program content, including as part of collaborative storytelling projects with other regional stations across the network.
- Perform duties typically assigned to a reporter/editor specializing in fact‑checking.
- Design, structure and co‑ordinate online content focused on news verification and analysis.
- Edit, encode, digitise and package audio and video for a website using appropriate technologies.
- Prepare content for digital distribution, including coding and formatting as well as manipulating images, graphics and data visualisations.
- University degree in journalism, communications or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
- Minimum five (5) years’ relevant, proven experience in fact‑checking, investigative journalism or news verification, coupled with a deep understanding of both the broadcasting industry and the digital media ecosystem.
- Technical knowledge of digital tool development or programming (e.g., web scraping, automated monitoring and data visualisation).
- A mandatory Criminal record check.
- Other background checks may be conducted based on the operational requirements of the position.
