Overview
Nunatsiaq News, the newspaper of record for the Eastern Arctic, seeks two journalists to cover hard‑news, features and multimedia content across Nunavut and Ottawa.
Responsibilities- File a minimum of five news stories per week, including daily web content and at least one feature every two weeks.
- Provide two original photographs per week.
- Develop sources, generate new story ideas, and participate in editorial meetings.
- Travel to Nunavut communities as required to report on special events.
- Ensure timely delivery of stories with accompanying photos and adherence to editorial deadlines.
- Assist with proofreading, post‑production and other duties assigned by editors.
- Journalism degree, diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong interviewing, writing, reporting, photography, and social‑media skills.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and produce original content.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a newsroom.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Preferred: photography experience, Canadian Press style knowledge, social‑media use, CMS competence, knowledge of Nunavut, passion for northern culture, ability to speak/write Inuktitut.
