Inuit Congregation (Inuktitut-Language Worship)

St. Margaret’s Anglican Church is seeking a Pianist or Organist to provide musical accompaniment for the 11:30 a.m. Sunday Inuktitut-language worship service. The successful candidate will provide organ and/or piano accompaniment for congregational hymns and incidental liturgical music and will work collaboratively with the Incumbent Priest and designated lay leaders from the Inuit congregation to support meaningful and culturally rooted worship.

This role is a part-time position requiring both onsite and offsite preparation time each week.

Hours of Work
  • Onsite:
    Sundays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
  • Additional Preparation:
    Approximately two (2) hours per week conducted offsite (practice, music preparation, hymn coordination, and email communication).
  • Salary: $27/hour
Primary Responsibilities Worship Leadership and Accompaniment
  • Provide piano and/or organ accompaniment for the 11:30 a.m. Inuktitut-language Sunday service.
  • Accompany congregational hymns and provide incidental music at various points throughout the liturgy (e.g., prelude, offertory, communion, postlude, as appropriate).
  • Support confident congregational singing in a manner that is sensitive to the musical traditions and language of the Inuit congregation.
  • Be onsite and prepared to begin promptly at the designated service time.
Music Selection and Preparation
  • Use the congregation’s Inuktitut Hymnal as the principal source for music selections (sheet music provided).
  • Select hymns in consultation with the Incumbent Priest or a designated lay leader from the Inuit congregation.
  • Prepare music in advance to ensure confident and supportive accompaniment.
  • Communicate regularly with clergy and lay leadership regarding upcoming services, special themes, or liturgical seasons.

  • Maundy Thursday
  • Good Friday

The Pianist or Organist may also be requested to provide music for weddings, memorial services, and funerals held garet’s Anglican Church.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in piano and/or organ accompaniment suitable for congregational worship.
  • Ability to support congregational singing confidently and sensitively.
  • Experience accompanying church services or similar worship settings is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Anglican liturgy is an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Inuktitut language is considered a strong asset.
  • Respect for and sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic traditions of the Inuit congregation.

The Pianist or Organist supports this ministry by providing steady, confident accompaniment that encourages full participation in worship.
