Cross Border Tax and Estate Planning Consultant, Private Wealth
Overview
This role focuses on providing expertise on tax planning concepts and strategies, with a specific emphasis on Canada/US cross border taxation concerns. It provides specialized international wealth planning and advisory services for High Net Worth / Ultra High Net Worth (HNW/UHNW) and high-level executive clients and their families to help meet immediate and long-term objectives.
Leveraging specialized knowledge and experience, the incumbent partners collaboratively with other planning professionals and Relationship Managers to deliver comprehensive international wealth planning advice encompassing financial, tax, succession, philanthropic, will, estate and trust planning in multi‑jurisdictional situations. It supports the growth and retention of HNW/UHNW and high‑level executive client assets through specialized cross‑border planning solutions that broaden dialogue, enhance client relationships, consolidate assets and increase revenues.
Responsibilities- Demonstrates a consultative and collaborative value‑added approach in client conversations, acting as a member of a client strategy team.
- Provides customized advice and specialized planning services to HNW/UHNW client high‑level executive segments.
- Facilitates participation in a goals‑based discovery process directly with clients and ensures documentation and plan creation standards are met.
- Applies consultative sales and wealth planning principles, practices, and techniques in client interactions.
- Acts as a subject matter expert in international wealth planning, including regulations and policies, to assess and provide insights and solutions to clients.
- Leverages financial analysis in developing detailed and complex financial plans.
- Consults with clients and their external advisors on complex issues, as required.
- Provides commentary on emerging trends and new legislation through articles, case laws, and advanced international wealth planning solutions.
- Develops content in international wealth planning for training material, internal resources, and client‑facing material.
- Leads or participates in the development/presentation of educational programs in international wealth planning within BMO and to clients.
- Develops and maintains internal and external networks and referral sources to ensure ongoing business growth.
- Collaborates with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices.
- Protects the Bank’s assets by adhering to all banking and investment regulations, policies, and legal and ethical requirements.
- Operates at a group/enterprise‑wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to solve complex problems.
- Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
- Experience dealing directly and regularly with HNW/UHNW and high‑level executive clients.
- Post‑graduate degree is desirable.
- Relevant professional designation is an asset.
- Proven track record in developing and growing a profitable financial or related client services business.
- Extensive knowledge and technical proficiency in international wealth planning strategies, issues and trends.
- Seasoned professional with pertinent education, experience and industry knowledge.
- Typically a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience and a university degree in a relevant field of study.

The salary range for this role is $135,000 - $185,000.
