Overview

The Accounting Technician / Junior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization’s day‑to‑day financial operations. This position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions, maintaining reliable accounting records, and contributing to the effective delivery of core finance processes.

Responsibilities
  • Process and reconcile daily banking activity, including deposits, electronic payments, and credit card transactions; maintain ongoing bank reconciliations
  • Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded in the appropriate accounts and reporting periods in accordance with established procedures and controls
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, and general ledger adjustments; support month‑end close activities
  • Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations, including analysis of deferred revenue, events, and membership accounts
  • Review transactions for accuracy, completeness, appropriate coding, and compliance with internal policies
  • Support invoicing, cash application, account maintenance, and revenue‑related record keeping
  • Collaborate with internal teams to investigate and resolve discrepancies, ensuring timely and accurate resolution
  • Assist with financial analysis, reporting, and audit support, including month‑end, interim, and year‑end processes
  • Manage invoice adjustments, write‑offs, and accounts receivable follow‑ups, including communication with members and internal teams on outstanding balances
  • Provide backup support for accounts payable functions as needed
Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary education in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on experience in a similar accounting role
  • Strong foundation in general accounting principles, including reconciliations, financial controls, and month‑end processes
  • Proven experience preparing journal entries and performing balance sheet analyses
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience with Sage

  • Exposure to Sage Intacct, CRM platforms (e.g., Hub Spot), and integrated financial systems is considered an asset
  • Highly organized with solid time‑management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Detail‑oriented with a high level of accuracy in all work
  • Analytical and solutions‑oriented, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and recommend practical resolutions
  • Strong communication skills with a professional, customer‑service mindset
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset
  • Demonstrates accountability, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
What Will Make You Stand Out
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, data analysis) and experience leveraging financial systems to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy
  • Experience working in a multi‑entity or membership‑based organization, with exposure to complex revenue streams such as events or deferred revenue
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and streamline accounting workflows using system capabilities or automation tools
  • Proven track record of proactively resolving discrepancies and strengthening financial controls while collaborating effectively across departments

The posted salary range reflects expected compensation for this role in accordance with Ontario pay transparency requirements. Actual compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications and may fall anywhere within the range.
