As a Financial Advisor
, you assume key responsibilities in the preparation of the Centre’s annual Program of Work and Budget, including the Budget section of the Programs, Allocation and Budget (PAB) document.
You maintain and refine financial models used to forecast expenditures for research projects and overall operations. You are responsible for the preparation of all internal and external financial reports, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with organizational and statutory requirements.
You provide advisory services to divisional directors and managers across all areas of budget planning and monitoring, supporting effective financial management and decision‑making.
You also contribute to the development and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and practices related to budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, in close collaboration with regional controllers and divisional leadership.
You will also:
- Provide financial advice and guidance to directors and managers on budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance.
- Lead and coordinate the annual budget process and quarterly forecasts.
- Identify risks, variances, and corrective actions to support decision‑making.
- Monitor financial performance and support clients in interpreting results and managing their budgets.
- Prepare and deliver timely, accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to strategic and operational discussions as a trusted business partner.
- Support the continuous improvement of financial management practices, processes, and systems.
- A bachelor’s degree in business administration, commerce or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A CPA designation and membership in good standing with a recognized professional accounting association.
- At least 8 years of relevant experience demonstrating a broad and in‑depth knowledge of financial management practices, including forecasting, budget monitoring, financial analysis and reporting.
- Experience applying financial policies and procedures, with a focus on operational planning and problem solving.
- Experience working with financial systems (experience with Workday Adaptive is an asset).
- Knowledgeable in financial and budgeting practices, generally accepted accounting principles, and data control principles.
- Skilled in financial analysis and reporting, including formulating recommendations to management.
- Able to apply advanced reporting and data analysis techniques to support decision‑making.
- A strong problem solver, with the ability to contribute to business process improvements and system enhancements.
- An effective communicator with strong oral and written communication skills.
- Recognized for your sound judgment, analytical thinking, and ability to synthesize complex issues into clear recommendations for senior management.
- Bilingual (in English and French) at least at an intermediate level.
