Job Description & How to Apply Below
Join a high-performing consultancy that's making a real impact helping organizations navigate complex transformation. This boutique advisory firm partners with high-profile clients across industries to drive digital adoption, embed lasting organizational change, and deliver measurable outcomes. They move fast, operate with integrity, and hold themselves to an exceptionally high standard of delivery. As they scale, they're building the internal infrastructure to match - and this role is a key part of that foundation.
If you're a finance professional who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership without being asked, and wants to help shape the financial backbone of a growing organization, this is a compelling opportunity.
The Role:
Our client is seeking a Finance Manager to own the financial engine of the business, reporting directly to the COO with a dotted line to the CFO. This is not a back-office bookkeeping role - it sits at the intersection of execution and analysis. You'll run day-to-day financial operations, maintain the cadence of financial reporting, and build out the analytical infrastructure that gives leadership real visibility into business performance and trajectory.
You build and judge financial models, not just record historicals. You take ownership of numbers and actively control them - not passively report them.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and deliver a weekly Financial Pulse Check covering cash position, burn rate, forecasted spend, AR/AP aging, and financial risk flags
- Lead month-end and quarterly close and review processes
- Maintain and update rolling cash flow forecasts using dedicated forecasting tools
- Prepare monthly P&L comparisons with percentage-of-sales analysis and custom reporting for leadership review
- Build and own the annual budget process - pulling it together for leadership review, not waiting to be handed inputs
- Own project profitability tracking across all active client engagements, diving into cost, labor, and milestone data to actively manage project economics
- Lead the separation of revenue recognition from invoicing - booking revenue against hours completed or milestone achievement so the monthly P&L reflects work performed, while invoicing continues per contract terms
- Develop custom reporting infrastructure for profitability by customer and by job
- Manage HST remittances and corporate tax obligations, ensuring timely and accurate compliance
- Maintain clean books in QBO, ensuring accurate transaction coding across the business
- Review third-party vendor and subcontractor agreements to assess commercial terms, scope, and financial risk
- Support client scope estimating with financial modeling as needed
- Test quote accuracy against actuals to reduce quote-to-actual variance over time
- Conduct ad-hoc FP&A analysis as business needs evolve
- CPA designation with 5+ years of progressive experience - not someone who only works from a defined playbook
- Comfortable with ambiguity: you can build a forecast from scratch, judge whether it's reasonable, and own it
- Proactive by nature - you identify what needs to happen next and move on it without being told
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to surface actionable insights from data
- Detail-oriented and organized - your books are clean and nothing slips
- Clear communicator who can translate financial complexity for non-finance stakeholders
- Comfortable in a fast-moving environment where priorities shift and you're expected to adapt
- Experience in a professional services, consulting, construction, or project-based business environment
- Hands-on experience with Quick Books Online (QBO) and cash flow forecasting tools
- Familiarity with project profitability tracking, revenue recognition, and gross-to-net analysis
- Competitive base salary ranging from $95,000–$120,000, commensurate with experience
- High-autonomy role with direct exposure to COO and CFO leadership
- Remote-first, flexible work environment - Ontario / Ottawa region preferred
- A mandate to build, not just maintain - your fingerprints will be on the systems and processes that take this organization to the next level
- A passionate, values-driven team that moves fast, operates with integrity, and holds itself accountable to results
