Who are we?

We’re a collective of hostels with super local character. A social economy business. We help everybody explore our neck of the woods like a local. From the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula to the Great Lakes of Ontario, we offer social accommodation. A place to meet up with people who come from all over the world.

Together, we help grow the nomad community.

Your work environment

You’ll be able to brag that you work in a 150-year-old jail! For the past 50 years, it’s been transformed into one of the most unique hostels in the world. While we’ve added all the comforts travellers need, we’ve kept the historic character - stone walls, iron doors, and yes, even original jail cells where guests can still sleep for a one‑of‑a‑kind experience.

Your responsibilities

Brighten our guests’ mornings by serving breakfast and keeping the dining area clean and welcoming.

Jump in to help with hostel activities from time to time — think BBQs, pub crawls, and fun social events — alongside our Experience Curator.

Above all, help us create unforgettable memories for travellers from around the world.

More specifically, you will be called to
  • Kickstart our guests’ day by preparing a tasty breakfast (think fresh fruit, hot coffee, boiled eggs, bagels and more).
  • Keep everything stocked and looking inviting while guests help themselves.
  • Bring history to life by giving guided tours of our famous jail.
  • Create unforgettable memories through warm hospitality and top‑notch customer service.
  • Keep the dining area welcoming and spotless.
  • Team up with our Activity Curator to run fun hostel activities and exciting events, both inside the hostel and out in the city.
  • Jump in on any other related tasks that help make our hostel experience amazing.
You are the perfect person for the job if
  • You’re a natural at customer service and love making people feel at home.
  • You’re comfortable working independently but also enjoy being part of a team.
  • You thrive on meeting people from around the world and have great social skills.
  • You’re passionate about history and proud to show off Ottawa.
  • You’re detail‑oriented and reliable, even with routine tasks.
  • You’re confident communicating in English and in French (bonus points if you speak other languages!).
  • You have food handling certification or hostel experience (an asset, but not required).
What we offer
  • 20 to 32 hours a week, could be more during high season or during certain festivals
  • Remuneration:
    Starting salary at $18.90/hour.
  • Access to free breakfasts.
  • 11 statutory holidays.
  • Free or discounted nights in our beautiful collective.
  • Pension plan with employer contribution at 5%.
  • Work environment that fosters a culture of work‑life balance.
  • A human and passionate team.
  • Unique and historic workplace.
  • Starting date:
    As soon as possible.
