Assistant Catering Manager – Overview
Full‑time position at Carleton University. Reports to the Catering Manager and works with the other Assistant Manager to manage and execute day‑to‑day catering events and functions from beginning to end.
Job Responsibilities- Ensure all contractual obligations of the contract are met
- Support the Catering Manager at client meetings in determining floor plans, rentals and staffing
- Responsible for execution of functions
- Resolve customer concerns in a timely manner
- Support meetings with the Catering Chef to plan menus for clients and special events
- Recruit, staff, and oversee staff training
- Conduct hourly performance reviews with assistance from Banquet Captain
- Supervise hourly staff and provide leadership
- Set staff work schedules and monitor staff performance
- Participate in progressive disciplinary process with assistance from Manager
- Support inventory process
- Ensure proper cash handling procedures are followed
- Support Marketing initiatives
- Verify payroll
- Maintain vehicle inspection reports
- Ensure adherence to Aramark policies and procedures
- Ensure adherence to Aramark Health and Safety policy
- Conduct weekly meetings with the Catering Team
- Diploma in Hospitality Management or Food and Beverage Management is preferred
- Must possess a valid G Driver’s License to operate a campus van as required
- Previous hospitality and/or catering experience is required
- Some staff supervisory experience is a requirement
- Smart Serve certified or willing to obtain as required
- Excellent customer service skills
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize to provide direction
- Must be flexible to work events as required, including evenings and weekends
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
