What do you offer?
Reporting to the People & Culture Manager, the People & Culture Specialist provides excellent service to the public and staff of the YMCA of the National Capital Region. The People & Culture Specialist supports the general administration of all human resource functions across the Association.
Some of the tasks of this position include:
- Promoting a positive work environment by fostering trust, respect, and inclusivity between management and employees, while developing strategies to enhance employee engagement and satisfaction.
- Ensuring HR compliance and administration by assisting in developing and communicating HR policies aligned with legal requirements and company standards, while maintaining accurate records and preparing HR letters to ensure compliance and professionalism.
- Support the full recruitment cycle, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and onboarding.
- Overseeing the People & Culture Administrator and training compliance by monitoring overall completion rates, tracking progress, and supporting managers in ensuring employees fulfill mandatory training requirements.
- Supporting workplace investigations when needed by assisting with confidential inquiries into employee complaints or misconduct, providing guidance and documentation to ensure fair and transparent resolutions.
- Supporting Y-LERN (YMCA Labour and Employment Relations Network) initiatives by providing guidance and advice to other non-profits and charities on labour relations matters and assisting in the development and maintenance of a digital repository of labour relations tools and resources.

The successful candidate will have the following:
Education
- Post-secondary Certificate or Diploma in Human Resources, and/or an undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field
Language
- Fluent in English, oral and written
Experience,
Skills and Abilities
- 5 years of experience gained through specialist or generalist positions within Human Resources
- CHRP designation or demonstrable progress towards certification
