Job Description

We are seeking a Senior HR & Labour Relations Partner to join our growing HR team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a Labour Relations professional to join a highly-talented engineering and manufacturing business. Collaborating with intelligent and supportive leaders, you will provide expert advice that contributes to our mission of achieving a more secure world through innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert Labour and Employee Relations guidance and support to our HR team and leaders, tailoring best practices to the needs of our growing business
  • As a member of our HR Business Partner team, provide advice on:

    Performance management

    Collective agreement interpretation

    Labour and employee relations principles and legislation
  • Collaborate with our Total Rewards team to develop compensation strategies for our unionized employees
  • Partner with our Talent Acquisition team by ensuring our recruitment processes align with collective agreement requirements
  • Connect and build relationships with leaders, union representatives, and employees to proactively resolve conflicts
  • Develop and deliver presentations to senior leaders on Labour and Employee Relations strategies, enhancing understanding and advocacy
  • Lead collective bargaining with our manufacturing and professional unions, conducting research, developing bargaining strategies, and applying interest-based techniques
  • Develop and lead training on Labour and Employee Relations, equipping leaders with essential knowledge and skills
  • Lead grievance resolution and workplace investigations as required to inform strategic HR initiatives
  • Collect metrics, perform data analysis, and make recommendations
  • Act as a key contributor to various strategic HR initiatives, directly impacting organizational effectiveness
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration/Commerce with coursework in Industrial Relations or equivalent
  • Significant experience working in a unionized environment
  • Proven ability in conflict resolution, with a track record of engaging with leaders and union representatives to proactively resolve challenges
  • Experience in interpreting and drafting collective agreement language, bargaining proposals, and settlement agreements
  • Experience in preparing collective bargaining strategies and active participation in collective bargaining
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Highly knowledgeable in Ontario labour and employment law
  • Knowledge of variety of HR disciplines including Performance Management, Total Rewards, and Talent Acquisition
  • Enthusiastic contributor with strong initiative
  • Excellent business acumen
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate education in labour relations ( MIRHR, MIR)
  • Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation
  • Experience leading collective bargaining
  • Knowledge of Alberta, Nova Scotia, and/or Quebec labour and employment law
  • It is a requirement that General Dynamics Mission Systems-Canada be registered with the Canadian Controlled Goods program and that all of its workforce be security assessed. Successful applicants must meet all applicable security requirements, including but not limited to the ability to obtain and maintain a Canadian government security clearance. Applicants may be required to meet additional security requirements in order to gain access to technical data, classified areas or information that is subject to international regulations.

    Additional Information

    What We Offer
    The hiring range for this position is $93,600 to $117,000 CAD.
