Bilingual Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP), People Strategy and Culture (Permanent full-time, position back-fill)

The Royal College partners and collaborates to lead the evolution of specialty medical education and standards; support specialist physicians, learners and teams to continuously improve; and advocate for excellence in specialty medicine by supporting innovation, well‑being, equity and person‑centered care.

We are a national, nonprofit organization established in 1929 by a special Act of Parliament to oversee the medical education of specialists in Canada.

Reporting to the Director, People Strategy and Culture, you will collaborate, advise and coach both leaders and employees in all aspects of the employee life cycle and talent management, including current and future people implications. As the HRBP, you will build strong partnerships by ensuring issues are addressed and resolved in a timely and constructive manner. You will work closely with all areas of the People Strategy and Culture department to provide customized people solutions in alignment with workforce goals and priorities, proactively sharing relevant business insights from partner groups.

As an HRBP you will play an integral role in promoting a culture focused on openness, transparency, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Here’s an insight into your typical day‑to‑day:
  • Build long term strategic relationships with people leaders and act as the trusted advisor in providing professional and proactive human resources support and services to assigned partner groups.
  • Partner with assigned portfolios to create and implement a robust talent, workforce and people strategy that will support the achievement of departmental and divisional goals and drive business value through people.
  • Lead strategic recruitment efforts for assigned partner groups in collaboration with the Talent Acquisition partner with focus on providing expert advice while ensuring the process is transparent, fair and equitable.
  • Analyze workforce data to identify resource requirements and trends (e.g., attendance, turnover, overtime, projected retirements) and recommend actions to leadership regarding their own portfolio.
  • Ensure hiring strategies are in alignment with the business requirements and that workforce plans are aligned with the corporate plans.
  • Work closely with partners in identifying mission‑critical roles ensuring mitigation/retention strategies and action plans are developed.
  • Consult and support partners on organizational design and structure changes.
  • Support, consult, investigate violations and/or breaches of corporate policies. Determine findings, recommend appropriate action, including disciplinary or administrative measures as may be required.
  • Provide full coordination services for employee discipline and termination process.
  • Support investigations relevant to respectful workplace complaints, and code of conduct matters.
  • Support the mediation of complex employee relations issues.
Does this sound like you?
  • Level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in psychology, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience with Human Resources.
  • CHRP designation or working on attainment of the CHRP designation.
  • Ability to lead and support cross functional project and working groups and have proven experience in planning and controlling activities within diverse Human Resource functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to always maintain a high level of confidentiality, tact and discretion with both leaders and employees.
  • Extensive knowledge and proven ability to provide advice to partners on the application of the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, Human Rights Code, Pay Equity Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act.
